Default Shaking Tail Pipe

My tail pipe is vibrating and the sound it makes is annoying! I just wanted to know where i can by a replacement for the rubber absorbers that hold it in place cus i think that may be the problem? If it isn't possible to buy one new, do the ef/el ones fit, i could pick one up from the wreckers.

Thanks.

Even auto one or auto pro will have them. They are a universal part.

I bought the rubber mountings and fitted them, the old ones were badly worn/cracked. But the shaking still occurs periodically and there is a metal on metal ringing sound that sounds as if it is travelling the pipe. The sound doesn't happen when in park, only when put in reverse and drive (from park), reversing out of driveway and when idleing in traffic.

Help...It's really annoying!

Check your gaskets, and also that the hangers arent touching inside the rubbers.

Where abouts are the gaskets and what should i be looking for?

gaskets are between the exhaust manifold and the centre pipe (exhaust manifold is the bit that attaches directly to the engine), and there's also one between the centre pipe and the tailpiper (just near the rear suspension). If one's let go or broken it might be the exhaust pieces rubbing against each other.

Also check that your exhaust isnt rubbing or vibrating on anything.

is it a factory exhaust, they have a habit of changing shape , you might notice the scrapes on the underside of the tip..

If it is an aftermarket jobbie just get the local exhaust shop to heat up a few of the bends and it will pull away form the offending area..

Firstly grab you exhaust (when cold) and shake it a fair bit to see if it's making contact with something.

If the sound is a light metallic shuffle it is most likely rusted particals in a muffler or in the heat shield around the cat convertor. Best to get an exhaust place to check it out.

I had the issue with the cat convertor and it was really annoying, when the car is idle there is a shuffling noise coming from under the car. I ended up replacing the cat (the expensive option) but when I removed the old cat I peeled back the shield, the rust flakes fell out, put the shield back together and it seemed fine. When I shook it there was no noise, but I never tried it the car.

mines strarting to do the same, and it's a aftermarket jobbie and i think the annoying vibrations are caused by broken brackets or rubbing on underside like racecraft has said!!!

I have this problem and I really should look at it and work out what the problem is
I suspect it's the tip rubbing against the rear bumper.

Someone has suggested to me it might be engine mounts (doubtful, but anything is possible)

Mine also does it only when in gear and only when under about 1000rpm
