Default Body Kits

Saw a BA6T today with the GT stripes, Boss bonnet and GT rear wing, have also seen plenty of AU's going around with the TE-TS body kits, to me these kits should belong on the cars they come out on,we spend heaps of money on the cars and looks only to have copy cats made. Whats the general opinion on this.

well it doesnt **** me off at all when people put a DC grill on their NC fairlane to make it look like an LTD. if all you wanted was the look perhaps you should have bought a forte and added a bodykit yourself.

It's more a case of copies being made by 3rd parties isn't it? I thought you couldn't buy T-Series/GT bumpers from Ford unless you have that car? Don't HSV have a similar policy with their alloys?

yeh you need a VIN number to be able to purchase an FPV product from factory.. mate of mine wanted FPV centre caps for his XR6; Ford said "Give us a legit vin number plus $80 per corner and you can have them"

My Dad wants me to put a GT rear bar on my XR6. I said no.
At least that wouldn't be as bad as putting a GT bonnet on it, and really only people who knew what they were looking at would notice a difference, but still I don't think so.

Just my opinion, but I don't like the idea.
My EB XR8 has got a GT kit on it, the first thing I'm doing once I get the shed and the cash that I need I'm taking the damn thing off!
I'm stick of people asking what type of commodore is it!! 'BLUE OVAL GUYS'!!!
I brought the car with the kit on it and after having a car thats a copy I agree that only the car that came with that kit should have it.

well i think its a poor mans way of having a nice looking car. aslong as its not overdone its all good.

id love to have a BA GT, but realistically, its proberbly never going to happen, so id get an xr8 with a kit. is there anything wrong with that?

Putting bits and pieces from a higher spec car onto your own car is passable in my books, as it gives people more choice on how to make their car unique, but what I truly hate is when people make replica cars!!! Some company was advertising a Lamborghini Murcielago Replica for $120,000 (1/5 the price of the real thing) or a Dodge Viper for under $100,000. I bet the owner of a legit Lambo will be mighty ****ed. It's alright replicating/restoring old, classic cars (Ford GT40, Shelby Cobra etc), but why do it to new cars? Ruins the whole image of the real thing and ruins it's exclusivity.

this has been asked before and its still gonna be the same answer. the people that can afford the 'real' car will say no and the people that cant afford them will say yes. (with a few exceptions)
since they werent fitted 'factory', is it then unacceptable to fit a bigger exhaust, extractors, some nice rims, premium sound or anything else that didnt come standard on your lower spec model?
i will once again say that it is your car and your money so you can do whatever you damn well please to it.
theres nothing you can do about it, and its never gonna go away, so if you dont like it, then learn to live with it.

Got to agree Davway. Where would we all be if Rob (Herrod) and Falkeen didn't have their stock available to car lovers...

Not everyone can afford the 'real' thing and it simply doesn't matter. People have different priorities and budgets. We all have different taste, no matter what the item is. To be able to individualise our cars is a good thing...

To say 'don't do it' would be like telling Gary he shouldn't have created the Minginator! It's just not right to interfere.

This is what makes our cars individual by giving us the option to personalise them other wise they would all look the same.

I hate them when they look like crap. If they are done well, most cars look good. It annoys me when you dodgy stripes down a XR. At least get them done properly.

your car, your money, your choice to do what you want with it. if other people dont like it, thats their problem.

Go for it, if it looks stupid it's your own fault, (besides putting the "bulge" bonnet on sixes is like putting a sock down your pants!)

I'm also of the opinion that it's a matter of personal choice. If it looks good and an effort is made to keep it looking good, why not?

How many times are we going to rehash this tired old argument.

You could argue that a Ghia is a factory tarted up XT or a GT is a factory trated XR8.

Falcons are parts bin specials to start with, so if the parts fit go for your life.

Who give a rats what others think of what you do with your own car...

Im not a fan of trying to make your car look like something it aint.

But putting parts from other models on your car I have no problem with, put a bonnet buldge on your XT or AU, put a GT wing on your XR , but just dont put the badges on it. When I bought my car there was 6 cylinder fairlane in the yard with a tl50 badge on it, and Ive seen heaps of BMWs with M3 badges on them, when the car definately aint an M3, this is just silly. If you cant afford the car you want dont try to make out your car is that car!

Most people who modify their car have differing opinions as to what is good and what is bad! Its called individuality! I might not like someones car and may coment about it , but in the end , Its "HIS" pride and joy,and as long as HE likes it thats ALL that matters! It s not realy the car that bothers me , i just dont think much of the guy that ownes it! and that my freinds is human nature ! Each to his own , and I dont expect anyone else to like my car or me for owning it ! I just enjoy driving and playing with "MY" pride and joy !
