Default info on turbo

Heya fella's, I know theres probably a few threads already but as the title says i need some info/help about strapping a turbo on my bros au3 falcon.

The story goes like this, after many dollars wasted, my bro says its time to stop ****ing up his money and start spending it on his car, however he isn't very mechanically minded so this is where i come in, a freshly qualified diesel mechanic. I know my way well enough around the ford i6 and v8 engine to do pretty much all of the mechanical work on em myself, eg cams, heads, etc... but am lacking in the forced induction area.
His instructions were, he wants it to look good and he must have a turbo, i've tried telling him there is no cheap way but he is not that fussed about money but i was told to keep it as low as possible.
Now here is where help is required, I've seen the snort performance stage 2 kit for $2500 on ebay and have decided that is sufficent enough as he basically only wants it for **** factor and not 4 performance. They say other than intercooler pipes and dyno tuning it is good to run on a standard engine at low boost (6-7psi) and nothing else is required. Has any one done this, i need feedback please. Any Info on turbos for an au, previous knowledge, any one who has used this kit, prices, anything will help. Keep in mind that he does not thrash his car or give it a hard time, like i said its more 4 **** factor.

hey mate, i just very recently brought a turbo kit stage 2 of this mob maybe a week ago, i paid $1500 with rebuilt tubo and no cooler, it still hasn't arrived yet, so yer it should be interesting, however im running a much lower comp ratio on a engine im getting rebuilt for it, but yer we'll see how i got with it and i'll let u no.

Generally I think people agree that you can run 6 psi into a standard engine with a rising rate regulator.

I think they thing about a turbo as it appears cheap at first but when you start adding all the bits it can get very expensive. Iv heard the stock ecu does not handle the turbo very well at all and a upgrade is a must if you want it to run smootly. I purchased all my stuff second hand.. manifold, garret turbo, hks wastegate, headshield, bov, intercooler, boost gauge, air filter, intercooler, piping,oil lines, dump pipe, cat, screamer pipe, sump plug, joiners, fuel pump, injectors, wolf 3d, stall converter, turbo timer, ignition module + more and that all second hand cost around $5500. If your going to spend the cash its probably better to do it properly so your engine isnt starved for fuel running on a stock ecu.

yeah i know you cant turbo cheap, what is it, if its cheap and fast - its not reliable, if its cheap and reliable-its not fast, if its fast and reliable-its not cheap. I fully understand what should be done and intened to upgrade the computer any way, but because power wasn't a goal, was just wondering what i could get away with. By the way thanks everyone for da help, keep the info, storys and prices coming in.
