Reason I ask, is i think this will be my next trade when im finished with the airline business

I think the actual trade is now called a cert III in electrotechnology (in QLD) has anyone got any pointers in what avenues to pursue? I think im looking into things like process operations, industrial machinery etc. I liked doing mods, installing and replacing things on aircraft, i reckon this is as close as Im going to get.

Now i think its up to me to finish my current trade, look into getting the Recgonition of Prior learning I can achieve, and find myself an employer who is willing to fast track another trade. Hopefully, i can have 2 trades under my belt before 25 (i just turned 22) and can contract myself between anything i desire or even go back to uni?

I am a Qualified Electrical Fitter Mechanic in QLD ( or Electrician as we know ).. I also have a ticket in Instrument Fitting.

there will be more money in the industrial field, dealing with motor control equipment, plc drivers etc etc.. A lot of this is 415v work, , so it does take a bit to learn different aspects of motor control. Commercial work is also ok, , but get used to fitting lights to shopping centres.

Residential Electricians can wire houses with their eyes shut, , but some of them get paid good money.

The most rewarding is definatley industrial. Look for a Coucil, Railway, Machinery plant, etc etc .

I done it for a while and then got sick of the Queensland heat, so went to retail, , done that for about 10 years and am finally at the top of the tree....

I completed my electrical Fitter Mechanic trade a fair number of years back now. Have been working ever since as a specialised Voltage Regulation Technician - Working on High Voltage transformers & associated ancilliaries. One of the easier ways is to try getting an apprenticeship with one of the electrical supply authorities, they're currently going through a MAJOR rebuilding stage and increasing numbers (quite strange considering the rest of the marketplace is pretty much all doom and gloom) They normally do 2 intakes a year, one timed for the school leavers. Keep an eye out in the major papers (I know energy australia, and integral energy - both in NSW advertise regularly in the sports sections)

yeah i know that lift mechanics get paid heaps, especially on electrical side

I work for a construction contractor in Darwin. The big money is in the mines or refinery work. House bashing is the other end of the spectrum, although as mentioned, good money can be made especially as a subbie. I'd say go for your contractor's ticket once you get your trade license which, from memory, you have to hold for 2 years before you can apply for a contractor's ticket. Or post trades courses like electronics, plc's or instumentaion. Engineering...many options open.

the missus doesnt want me involved with the mines, so I'll stay away. Im thinking industrial atm, PLC and all that business. I'm going to go to a New Apprenticeships centre as soon as I get to Brisbane, then once i have my current apprenticeship done and trade papers in hand, head off to look for a employer. Energy Australia offered us a bridging apprenticeship, only 2 years. They give u the A grade license and the data and communications as well. Shame they arent in Qld actually
