Default The times you've been booked

I'm interrested to know that of the times you've been booked how many of you have been booked for under 10kph and or 15kph by a policeman as opposed to a camera. Cameras have a smaller margin of error so how many have been booked for 10-15 under. How many times have you actually been given the benefit of a lesser fine because you were only just over EG fined for 15 over when the cop said you were doing 25+. I'm not sure of the actual increments these days.

Only ever received one infringment notice, was caught by speed camera in Brunswick doing 72kmph in 60 zone October 2001. I wrote a nice letter in to the officer in charge of the traffic camera office and received a warning. :hihi:

i asked him to see a radar or something to show me, and he said he saw that i was doing 68 cause he was sitting right behind me and it was what he read on his speedo..
my word vs his word.. bah, no change so i paid it and go over it.

I was booked for 101kph in a 100 zone by a very polite gentleman from the Gosford Highway Patrol in 1996. He even wrote the speed on the ticket. This was on the Newcastle Freeway up the top of Pete’s Ridge. Back in 1990 some piece of deadwood in the NSW state government called Wal Murray dropped the speed limit for trucks from 100 to 90 because of a couple prangs. They later changed it to 100 for speed limited trucks on divided roads and 90 on single lane highways. The Kenworth I was driving was speed limited and had the appropriate signage indicating this, however, the trailer that I picked up in Sydney didn’t have a 100 sign on the back of it so the (insert word here) HWP officer dropped me back to 90.

They do this sort of thing up there because they know that if you took it to the local court, it would be thrown out but because I live in Melbourne it would cost a couple of grand to win against a $165 fine. My boss paid the fine because it wasn’t my fault but I still lost a point over it.

Karma caught up with a few of the old Gosford boys though.

Why do these things tend to happen in NSW and nowhere else? I never have any problem with police in any other state.

Cheers, Danny

I have been done using the 40kph in school zones. Between 2:30pm and 4:00pm is the 40 limit, normally this road was 70. On the clock in my car it said 4:01pm but the cop booked me cause his clock/watch was 3:57pm and he booked me for 30kph over in a school zone. $250 and 3 points just because of a time difference of 4 minutes. He obviously didnt get too many people which is why he persisted that it was before 4pm and got me big time.

Once for speeding in 26 years, 76kph in a 60kph zone. It was out in a non residential area and on a straight stretch of road. Twice for other offences though. Last time was in 1990 for going through the lights when they changed from amber to red, had to make a quick decision whether to stop hard or go. I chose go and got done for it.

Pretty lucky otherwise really.

got booked doing 28 in a 10 zone. i was in a 50 zone when all of a sudden i see a sign saying you are now entering a "shared zone" 10km/h so i was slowing down and it was 11;30pm and no-one was around.

but there was an XR8 hiding on the shoulder of the road behind a bush and the B***h got me. lol. 3 points

also i got done a few months befor that for not displaying p plates. 2 points. now i know you must display them but seriously 2 points? i think its 3 now.

Geez,a coupla tough ones there. I'll come clean my driving record is a bit dismal. I've lost my licence twice before I was 30,all for speeding never for accidents. When I was younger on my blacks I was allowed back on P's then after 12 months got more points and lost it for 3 months, then later I got booked a couple of times not thinking I was doing what the cop said and after yet another fine I checked the speedo and it was 12kph slow at100kph. So if I thought I was within tolerable speed I was actually well over the limit. Went to court and still lost it but only for 2 months. But in all those times and since I have never personally known anyone who has been pulled up for less than 15kph over. Yes booked because cop has pulled them up for 20+ and booked for less but not actually pulled up for less than 15kph.

My mum got done for doing 57kph in a 50 zone. This was when Vic just brought the law in and she thought the area was 60 zone.

I got done once for speeding when I was 19. On the yan yean rd I was doing 85 in a 60 zone. This little 60 zone bit was a small area where most of the road is at 80kph. This area was completely empty except for the cop that was sitting in the 60 zone. Mind you 50 meters up the road the sign was 80.
Paid the fine too the 3 point slug got on with it.

I know a couple of guys who do the Sydney - Melbourne run every night, and they have an "understanding" with the HWP.
Anywhere between 100-113k/ph, is fine, but anything over that and they are in trouble.

They were asked to slow down when there are cars around, but otherwise they are ok.

I have worked on that one for the last ten years now and have never been bothered. Took a while but I learnt my lessons and paid the fines.

How can you get done for 1k over the limit?? Here is SA i think you can do up to 67 or 68 in a 60 zone and not get caught.

this is why i think they should either have the variable speed signs or a flashing or fixed light on the sign to let you know when you're supposed to be doing that speed

if you're not watching for road signs like a hawk, sometimes you can go right through a school zone and be pinged......especially if you're from out of town and dont know where schools are!

Only one for me about 3 years ago. It was 66 in a 60 zone and got fined double because it was Australia day. Didn't even know I was speeding.

If speeding fines where a tax deduction over the years the tax dept would owe me heaps...I can go 5 years with good record then get booked or speed camera 2 or 3 times in one month..

Back when i was in the silly stage on my P's, got a fine for my tire just crossing a double line, then got one for only having one P plate, lost license, but fought the last fine and got license re-instated. Then about 1 year later was in a hurry and got booked 134 in a 100 zone. Lost liscense for a month. That was over 6 years ago. But after nearly dying a few time being a passenger in a few accidents last year, it certainly hit home the extra 20kph on the highway just aint worth it.
Thank you, take care of yourself ........... aaaaaaaand each other

In SA you can exceed the speed limit by 10% (e.g. 66 in a 60 or 110 in a 100) before they book you. Some other states are a little stricter.

As for my driving record, I don't even want to know about it.

Ok, I'll share mine - umm - had license for 10 months then - 125 in 100 comin down a hill in a hurry. That was my fault, I deserved it. Then, about 2 months later, I was havin a blue with the missus, while drivin, foot went down a bit, I realised I was speedin, doin about 120 ina 70 zone from memory, so I hit the picks hard, slowed right down to about 60. Then, some idiot walked out in front of me in dark clothes on dusk, I pulled over to give him a serve, thinkin he was drunk or something. It was at that point that I realised he was a Bike copper in his leathers, pulling me over to do me for 95 in a 70 zone. I should have lost my license for these 2 offences, but, being a delivery driver, I would have lost my job, so, I appealed and the Judge gave me 2 points for 12 months. Would have been another 2 years before I got another fine.

My next one was backing out of a driveway at a party in my corolla. I was gonna rip a skid, but, figured I shouldn't given there were heaps of people around and there were probably cops nearby. So, I didn't. I did, however, accidently get a chirp from 1 tyre because i put it into 1st a little quick, while still rolling back. There goes $240 and 2 points. Next was the same as BAFORDFAIRMONT. I was cruisin through an orange light, had to decide go or stop, figured I'd go and the camera got me. The next was me stopping at a stop sign. I stoped behind the car in front of me, from which point I could clearly see any cars on my right and I was turning left. After the car in front took off, I rolled forward and rolled through the stop sign at maybe 5 k/h. Got done for not stopping. I asked the cop at the time if he was getting me on a technicality because he could, rather than getting me because I had done something dangerous. He said it was a technicality. I then said that I think it is unfair but am willing to cop a fine if it is my fault. I decided to take it and not argue it because I didn't think it was worth the effort. I'm kind of wishing I had argued it though. Bit rude really. Anywho. That was almost 2 years ago and nothing since. Hoping to keep it that way.

Hmm only been booked once - driving down a highway with a speed limit of 80km/h at about 12am I was sitting just under the limit (about 75), there is a 400m section that turns to a 60 zone. In this 60 zone there was parked cars, in between one of these parked cars a cop was hiding with a radar gun, as I passed he jumped out and flagged me in, booked for 74km/h in a 60 zone (even though it is a dead straight 3 lane highway at midnight) - wasn't happy. :jab:

Been done a few times in 12 years on the road.....but should have been done a whole lot more.

In my first car (a KB Laser 'S' ) when I was 18 I 'lost' some coppers in a divvy van at night by nicking down a side road....Score 1 / zip

Once again flying around in the Laser and noticed a cop car on the side of the road.....I was doing 80+ in a 60 and they never came after me....Score 2 / zip

Got pulled over by a female copper (why are they always so cold....I love a woman in uniform).... asked me how fast I was going and well....I was smitten with her so I was honest and said 'I dunno....70?' Der...got done for doing 70 in a 60 zone.........Score 2 / 1

Got done in my EB for 88 in a 60k zone down hill - Eltham in Melbourne is full of hills and while it was unfair it was true......Score 2 / 2

Driving to the snow and in the 200 metres where it went from a 100k to 80k on approach to Mansfield got pinged by a camera for 88.....Score 2 / 3

A year ago got done driving my XF by a TOGGY who had me fair and square.....92 in an 80 zone......Score 2 / 4

Hmmm I'm noticing a trend in the score.....

I' ve been warned by other motorists about cops and cameras which has helped.....I hope me warning others has helped them.

Got done 3 times about 6 months after I got my license, got pulled over every time, all exceeding the limit by 20-30 k's over. Lost all my points and got 3 months. That sucked hard. Never been done in the 5 years since.
