Default Differance between 3.9 & 4.0 block ?

Hey all,

Just a quick question. I picked up a motor for my EB the other day it's a 3.9, anyways on the front of the motor it has 87DA-6059-AA. I had a look at the motor in my EB (series 2, pre smart lock) and it also has 87DA-6059-AA on the front of the block, the head is a 91AA. I found this a bit strange as it is supposedly a 4.0.:

Did they have the same code for the 3.9 and 4.0 blocks ? Or has my car been stooged from the factory. : :

Id say since both 3.9's and 4.0's come from the same casting (I believe) you probably havnt been stooged. A 4.0 is just a 3.9 that has been slightly bored out.

maybe the engines headgasket has been changed and at the same time the head may have been replaced...

but's it's suppossed to be a 4.0 It doesn't really faze me, the motor is stuffed anyways, but i just wanna know if the EB 4.0 motors were 87DA-6059-AA. Maybe cause mine is an Early EB2 they used the same numbers.

EBFalcs - I think you were lookin at the head, mine is 91 AA too, i'm interetes ion the numbers on the fron of the block above the Balancer.

EA and EB engines shared the same timing cover 87DA as mentioned. only ED got the later 91 DA timing cover with EF style top gasket ;)

The block's part number is locatad on the bottom of the exhaust side, just above where the sump bolts up.

Good to see you got a new motor. How much was it? Is it stock or is there some work done to it or something?
