thoughts on the no fuel day today

secondly i can't see how it'll do anything because the servos have already bought there stock from whereeva they get it from

I heard about this strike, i dont think its going to really do anything. We need to stop using cars all together for lets say a week. Taking the train, bus or walking to work each day to really cause the petrol stations and the government any problems.

at the end of the day, all we're doing it putting our selves out.
sooner or later we're going to need fuel.
not buying fuel isnt going to do anything, everyone will just buy it the day after.
i didnt buy petrol, infact i would have only purcahsed LPG, but i didnt need it.

we pretty much just have to put up with the price hikes.,

Some people at work here were even thinking of doing it.

The only way it can ever work, is every one who would drive doesnt i.e we all dont go to work or leave the house, thus actually saves fuel, not buying on any given day is as dumb as it can get.

I didn't buy fuel today, not because of the fuel day thing, but because it was pay day, when most people go and buy petrol, so they jack up the price.

I didn't buy fuel... but then again I haven't bought fuel for my BA XR6 in about 3 weeks now. it's sitting in the driveway getting used about 2 - 3 times a week and $20 3 weeks ago still has 82km DTE.

Catch public transport to work if you can - its a great way to get around... I'm now thinking about the next step... getting a pushy and riding to work. Get fit, save $$$ at the same time! WOW!

Hahahaha... i'm in a fortunate location that there is a bike path from near my place which goes all the way to the yarra, with my work in the CBD, thats great. Even if it isn't the most direct route it is off the roads, away from traffic and a nice ride.

I wouldn't really like to be dodging cars driving in and out of trams down Brunswick St twice a day.

Erm, I didn't fill up today but to be honest didn't know (read: care) that this was going on. If it gives people a warm and fuzzy feeling that this will make the petrol suppliers "sit up and take notice", well, more power to them. I get that feeling from beer, which is much easier to drink than petrol.

I was watching the news yesterday and Howard said if we lessen the tariff on fuel by 1cent, it will cost who ever $millions of dollars.
At the moment the government earn about 30cents of the $1.30 we are paying. We allready pay taxes in our pays. Whats the deal??

Instead of "No Fuel Day" we should boycott one particular company for a period of time, say a week. That would have more of an effect.

I didnt buy fuel, but if I needed it today, I would have filled up, wouldnt make any difference whatsoever.

There is a lot more to the supply chain of fuel than many people realise. Another thing is that just because a service station is labelled BP or Shell, doesn’t actually mean that the oil companies own the site. The site could be an independent franchise and therefore they are as much of a victim of these high prices as we are. So in effect you could be harming a family operation that is just trying to make a living out of selling fuel, usually for a very low margin.

If you want to make this protest effective, find out who actually owns the sites you plan to boycott and buy fuel from the independent retailers. This will send more of a message to the oil companies than simply not buying fuel for a day. The independent retailers have to buy their fuel from the majors and if they start selling more fuel than the company owned sites the oil companies will have to use “price support” so they don’t lose market share, effectively lowering the retail price.

The price of fuel is hurting us all, however, we have to go about this in a clever way. The refineries have enormous reserves and plenty of space to store fuel, so we will not hurt them one bit by not buying fuel for a day.

We may be putting ourselves out after a while, but do you realise how much profit these guys make every 24 hours. I think that even 1 week of a lot of motorists using alternative transport would make them think twice. I wish it would because by christmas we will be paying what they want. $1.75 a litre?

that is all good and well, but even with that "dont buy fuel on the 22nd" email going around, for every person who sees it and chooses NOT TO buy fuel, there would be probably another 10 who wouldnt have ever heard about it and wouldnt think twice about filling up.

even if the idea was going to work you would need absolutely everyone doing it, i am sure if you grabbed your deck chair and sat outside your local servo the amount of people going in would have been as normal.

on another note though i think it would be interesting to see figures on the amount of petrol people buy. these days i know for sure i am buying less, rarely fill the tank completely because the attendants eyes light up when they see 85L of PULP, and i dont take the car out as much as i used to.

in an ideal situation if EVERYONE, and i mean everyone didnt buy fuel for a week, then you might be looking at a bit of a force. but then again the companies know you're gonna have to buy fuel sometime, what's a week to them..

Did anyone read what full noise posted......YOU are not hurting the refineries you are hurting the service station owners/leasees...it does'nt work you will have to get fuel sooner or later. And yes I filled up today,when you're running around 200ks round trip for work per day..you fill up!!!!!
