Default I'm suprised

I'm really suprised that I'm having so much trouble selling my Escort. I really thought there would be more interest in a Mk II Escort with the options its got. But at this stage I am yet to have any serious offers, and with 58 minutes to go, the ebay auction has had 0 bids...

Even if I only get $250 for it to cover the amount I'm short for rego, I'd be happy, but nobody has even offered me that much, in fact, I have had no offers at all.

Sorry, I'm just suprised nobody seems to be interested in it.

hmm ill be after something early next year.. know that doesn't help you but yeah..just got other things to spend money on at the moment.

The only thing holding that sale back is the two extra doors...coupes sell quickly.

I didn't know it was only going for 250....damn!

Yeah, but nobody would want my 2 door either, well, not for $250 anyway, not with the rust it's starting to get :(

I set the starting price at $500, because I thought I'd be able to get that, and it's worth that much just for a few parts that it has, but I desperately need the money and would accept $250 just so I can afford rego on my XF - I'm just under $250 short :(

I could swap you for an '88 corolla thats very near roadworthy, but that's not going to help you alot.
I'd buy the escort if I had the room to put it.

Yeah I am really quite upset on your behalf, Troy. It's such a cutie and such a shame that it has to go, but you'd think it'd sell in a flash. I know it needs work, but aren't there enthusiasts out there at all? I mean, $250 is cheap as.

Grrrrr!

Yeah, it runs, could do with some attention, but it still runs, in fact just sitting there for a few months doesn't seem to have done any harm, after driving it around the block this morning it seems to be running much better then it did last time I drove it!

$250 wouldn't even buy the front and rear spoilers, instrument cluster, wheels and transmission, so I thought it would be easier to sell, even if somebody only got it to strip it for parts.

Coupes definately sell faster. Mine sold itself. I had a bloke knock on the door offer me a decent price. 2 days later he drove it home. I owned it for 3 years and sold it for the same price I paid for it.

Maybe I should try and sell the 2 door then, before it completely rusts out... :(

Well if you were in NSW i probably would have definately bought it (for a daily driver. Maybe its because you are Victorian, all the intersting cars for sale seemed to be Melbourne (too much supply). I wish I could get down their but Im
damned if im going to go Victoria to buy 1 car.

take all the good bits off it, sell them on ebay, dump the shell. you'll get more $'s that way. someone will buy the individual bits for their cars, its easier than buying a complete car just for the two spoilers etc.

Funny thing is, all the cars I want to buy are always interstate too, lol!

Yeah, I might have to do that if nobody buys it soon. Reasons I haven't already done that include the fact that the shell in in very good condition rust wise (only one bit of rust that I know of, and that has already been treated and bogged up, so it just needs to be fixed properly there and the shell will be 100%), and the fact that this has been my baby for years, so stripping it and selling it for parts would be one of the hardest things for me to do...

The rust isn't too bad, certainly far from repairable, in fact it wouldn't be too hard to fix. The only rust I know of is in the passenger side C pillar, and has already been cut out and bogged up, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to repair properly.

Hope it's ok for me to post the link: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....tem=4571736478 Start price is set lower to encourage people to bid on it, reserve has been set so if it does sell, I'll get enough to cover my rego...

It's funny, I've had more interest in it in this thread then all the time it's been in the for sale section, linked to in my signature, on ebay and in the trading post...

Now that would be a fun car to flog around a paddock. Give it some time Troy, I noticed you only posted the add today at lunch time. I'm sure you will get some bids soon. Out of interest how many K's has it done ?

EDIT: just noticed the time of you original post, I guess you started a new auction. The lower starting bid will help.

yup, started a new auction, and reworded the ad with some help from someone on here who will remain nameless unless they want to name themselves

The original ad was for $500, and got no bids after 7 days :(

I have no idea how many Kms it's done, the odometer only reads up to 99,999, and somehow I doubt it's done less then that...

I dont know why your having so much trouble selling it ! They are quite easy to sell over this way. I would do as others have said and wreck it... Should be able to get a bit for the front and rear spoilers etc..

Good MkI 2 doors are worth a LOT just for the body... a half decent (slightly rusty and dented but repairable) rolling shell is worth over £2000 in the UK

Yeah, but what worries me is if I pull it to bits and try to sell the bits, if nobody is interested in the complete car with those bits, there might not be any interest in the parts either...

Troy, if you haven't already, join the below escort forums

Works Escort Forum
http://forum.osella.com.au/

I sold my uncles Mk1 esky on the second one with a few weeks, it was distmantled with a few bits missing, sold for $500, give it a try.

I'd start the pricing up at the 500 mark and let them talk you down, don't give it away!

Cheers

Ahh, thanks for that, the 4 door Escort is already advertised on the Classic Ford Forum, however I didn't know about the Works Escort Forum, worth a try

Looks like I might have a buyer, Current bid on eBay is $360.55.

Less then I want to sell it for, but enough to cover what I need to pay for.

Yeah, it is a damn shame it had to go, but at the same time it's a relief that I was able to find a buyer.

Yeah, I've still got the 2 door - for now. It's also on eBay, I really need the money, had a guy offer me $350 for it today after viewing it, but he said he'd be fair and see how the eBay action goes, and if I can get more for it, then I should sell it to somebody prepared to pay more then $350, if nobody will pay more then that, he'll happily have it for that much.

Looks like soon I won't own any Escorts, but once things are a bit better in the money department, I have no doubt I'll get another one...

It sold, but thanks to eBay and their STUPID "express checkout direct bank deposit" system, I'm still waiting for the money.

Basically, when I entered in my banking details, I copied and pasted the correct numbers (BSB & Account numbers) straight from my internet banking, so I wouldn't get it wrong. But eBay wouldn't accept any dashes in the account number, so I removed them, without realising that when I had submitted the form, it had cropped the last 2 numbers and then gave me the error message that I could only have numbers in the account number field (why this is the case when you can have XXX-XXX in the BSB field is anybodys guess). So, without realising that the last 2 numbers had been lost, I removed the dashes and submitted the form. I should have checked, I know, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20 vision.

So anyway, the auction ended, and the buyer used the feature to deposit the money into my account. However, because of the two missing numbers, it hasn't arrived. My understanding is that the money would have been refunded to his account, because the numbers and bank account name wouldn't have matched, can anybody confirm this?

Anyway, he wants to come over tomorrow to pick up the car, I am not going to be happy tomorrow when I see it leave...

Yes, it's impossible to do a transfer without the full BSB. I used to work for a bank. When the purchaser clicked on the submit button it would have been rejected straight away.

Problem is they got the complete BSB, its the last 2 digits of the account number that went missing.

You got that right, no way am I letting him have the car until I've got the whole amount, and he doesn't even get the details required for him to pick it up until I get at least 1/2 of the money, and he doesn't get the car until I get the entire amount owing. If he disagrees with that, then the second highest bidder (who he outbid by $5) gets offered it for the amount he bid.

UPDATE:

Just waiting now for the buyer to call and say he's at the local train station, so I can give him a lift from there to where the car is, get the money off him, and give him the key to the car.
