Default Fuel for thought.

undefinedHi guys. just signed up. i turn 16 in 2 months and im looking out for an ED falcon as a first car. I would like it on gas, and a fairmont would be nice. My dad says that they're a great car. (He owned an EA S-pak and then a brand new XR8 sprint with an exhaust, now he's converted, he drives a bloody clubsport R8!) I wanted to know a few things. what kind of performance would you get from a 4.0L ED (0-400m, 0-100Km.) How hard would it be and how much would i be up for to turn over 160kw on the rollers or get 14 sec 0-400m? Does LPG make your car more sluggish, I heard it has a higher octane of approx 107? any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

according to the falcon facts website, a stock 4.0L ED Fairmont 4 speed auto runs 9.4 0-100 and a 16.8 standing 400m

DEV 5 kit from JMM would get you 160 rwkw and a 1/4 mile time in the 14's.

I wonder how much a DEV5 kit suited to LPG would cost? Cam grind would need to suit LPG (and valves/springs/seats?), but gas shuold be well suited to the high comp head...

Mmmm Gassed Mock Goodness!

a while ago i spoke to brendan, he said there was about 10-15rwkw difference between the LPG (gra carb) and ULP (no mixer) when the Dev5 setup was put on a dual fuel engine. there would be a few more gains in the LPG setup with tuning etc, but petrol would still be better.
n/a 6cyl on LPG pulling big numbers would require a lot of work.

The best way to get power is a k&n filter exhaust and extracters

The Dev kit isn't so cheap and you'd have to contemplate forced induction for similar money.

I'd focus on the usual mods like manual conversion, cam, extractors, maybe gas injection and so forth.
