sunroof viability...

hey guys...
who knows if/where i can get a real good sunroof installed or if its actually worth the hassle
my lane doesnt have one adn wanna know if an installed one will look good and clean both inside and out of the car?

I know a place on princess hwy Noble park they will install the factory roof for 2300 and will need your car for 2 days.

The factory roofs are Hollandia. Find someone who installs those, they'll do a similar job to Tickford/FPV.

if you are tall forget it you loose 2" of head room i have sat in an au with a factory sun roof and it was too low for me

scuse the ignorance but how do you lose any head room at all? its just a hole in the roof?

the mechanism has to go in you don't just cut a hole and bobs your uncle. and the mechanism / motor make you loose head room thats why tall people hate sun roofs

Mine sits flush with the roof, I thought that was how most are. It was done by Prestige Sunroofs in Burwood and came with the car.

Edit: Does that mean my whole inside of the roof has been lowered to cater for this?

it sits flush as such but they mod the headlining to make it lower there just isn't enough room in a standard AU for a roof without loosing height unless you measure it ( or are tall) you won't notice it. the one i had trouble with was a factory job

Inside the car the roof is domed, if you have a sunroof, it isn't

sweet as guys im only 5 foot 11 so the height wont bother me, plus the power seat you can lower down a fair bit so i could imagine taller guys shouldnt have all THAT much trouble :S but then again i got no idea till i get one huh.

I'm 6'10" and believe me if there is any loss in height I'd notice! The seat is down all the way, back all the way and there is still very limited room.

I'm 5'11" as well and the sunroof causes no problem.

If you are 6'10" then I bet you hate the awkward position of the power window switches? I'm shorter than you and I have to bend my wrist all the way down and back like an alien hand just to use them. I think the BA position looks much better, as I haven't tried it.

Just thinking about my head hitting the roof, and the last time I did that was when I sat in the back of my friend's WRX and another friend's Lancer while going over everyday dips in the road.

I had a Hollandia 300 fitted to my ute last Wednesday good price and only 2.5hrs to complete the job (2 people on the job). thats with a new hood lining as well.

It's great to find people to deal with that do good work. . . .

just lower ur seat. if u have the 1;s that can be lowerd. ie fairmont ghia seats.

Prestige Sunroofs in BURWOOD are one of the best. In fact the FPV guys were trained by their staff.

The sunroof definitely cuts into your headroom slightly. The mechanism inside the roof lining is quite thick so you lose about 1.5 inches of headspace.
You can see this when you see a car fitted with one. The headlining bulges slightly where the roof is from the inside of the car. This is always the case with a SLIDING roof. If you just get a POP UP roof.........this is not an issue.....you do not lose any space as there is no space required to hose the glass inside the roof.

I'm 5' 10" ish and I have no problem at all. Anyone taller may have some slight issues, but as other have said, you just lower your seat accordingly.

Lol yes I do have to "alien hand" to work the switches
The BA ones are in a nice spot but they don't look that flash.

I must be deformed the switches are perfect for me with the seat all the way back ( which i need anyhow)
