I was doing a diff service on my AU XR6 HP today. I noticed a fair bit of oil around the filler plug and two gaskets. I now know it was because the thread in the diff housing where the plug goes, is stripped.
The AU ones are alloy i believe. Any suggestions. I have put it back in with new double gaskets and some Teflon tape. It tightened up a reasonable way. Not sure if this will last or i need to get it helicoiled. I would replace the hat but I am under the impression that the AU XR ones are not only alloy but have the watts pin at a different angle for the suspension so i couldn't use any old diff hat? |

I have exactly the same problem, but on a standard diff. The good news is that the diff is very low pressure - so sealing should not be an issue. Not sure if Heli Coils come that large? Would be good if they did - let us know how you get on on that front.
I'm heading to the wreckers for a new diff cover. Oh and yes - I do believe the watts link pivot point was lower on XR's, so pay careful attention to that. What a PITA.
