Default mc mondeo

There is a vertical bar with arrows top and bottom and a red rectangular block near the top. It is just to right side of the selection column and only visible when the sound system is on. Does anyone know it's purpose?
Regards,
Nicrobell

Thanks Jimstone for the information. This is the the second Mondeo I have owned and the company car I had just before I retired was a Mondeo TDCI. Loved them all. The current car is an MC Titanium Ecoboost.
