The fact that it's parked in an open area to the lounge room is pretty odd.. Won't it leak oil or something.. And eventually put a smell in the room?

only if it has an oil leak that needs fixing already...

I wouldn't see this as something you would do with a car you use a bit. Just the sunday car type thing.

That's awesome...I know a guy who's got three old motorbikes in his lounge room...a 1926 Velocette racer, a 1940's AJS, and a 1951 Vincent Black Shadow (drool...). They sit on little wooden bases and look amazing.

My wifes comment when we first visited his house and saw them?

"Don't get any stupid ideas..."

Through work my dad is mates with Simon Bryant, the TV chef from "The chef and the cook" with Maggie beer. I do occasional work with dad and one day he needed to drop some oil and cheese at Simons house.
His house has no front door, it's just a garage roller door that opens up to reveal his Audi in the carport that then leads straight into his kitchen and entertainment areas. He has a mat laid out to catch any oil it might drop; so far nothing. It's a very cool setup, and quite secure. The house is all cement, solid and grey which actually looks quite good.
On this particular day he cooked me breakfast! I was quite happy that what seemed to be a boring day driving around turned out to be an eventful day meeting Simon, seeing his amazing home and getting a meal cooked by him personally.
The garage into home is something I'd love to do, it is such a cool idea.

It's a bit out of Melbourne, and people are again asking high prices for houses.

Problem with this place is that he is possibly narrowing down his market, my misses would move on once she saw the set up. She wouldn't want a car in the house. Me, I probably would.

Pretty cool for the **** factor I guess.

I'm happy with my 3 bay shed out the back, I have a couch & fridge in it, I'd like to get aircon for it one day..... Plus my cars are too busted to bring inside the house.

Here's a picture the mrs showed me.

It's an apartment in Singapore, the carport is on an elivator & it goes up to your level so you can keep an eye on them.

The fact that it dosent comply with the Building Code of Australia might be an issue. So forget it in a new place you wont get approval. So If your happy to have a place that wont comply thats your risk. Would think you home insurance company would love it. Big fire risk, un approved works

I can remember a program with an American PI that drove his car (think it ws a Corvette) into his house in Las Vegas to jump out into the lounge.

so that whole car lift is only for the one apartment?

doesnt make much sense to me to build that huge structure off the side of the building to service one apartment.

You'd have to be drug affected to spend $475k in Wyndham Vale, the block is only 669m2. There is no money to be made buying the best house in the street (particularly if it is a bad street).

I am in a service busines and I have reason to vist clients in that area. I find Wyndham Vale, Tarneit and Truganina to be completely devoid of street appeal.

Perhaps the lift has a rolling conveyor as the floor that then transfers the cars to their holding area, that also has a rolling conveyor as a floor...

Not that hard to do if you have a building budget in the tens / hundreds of millions.

Why isn't it to code? How do you know this isn't approved??

Why can't this be in a new place???

I wonder how many houses don't currently 100% comply with whatever 'code' is in place?? My old house didn't, my current unit doesn't... big deal.... Why is it a fire risk? How different is it to a gas heater / fire place / stove??

There used to be a bloke out the back of Dubbo who knocked the brick wall of his house down to put a A9X in the loungeroom. Covered the hole up with a few sheets of tin............
