New LED on BA ute - Legal question??

Hey guys.

Sorry not to sure if this is the right section... But,
Attached is a photoshop of some cheap LED onto my ute. i think they look good. Mind you the tray is meant to be black and not dirty.
Worth the change over? the reason is that i blow globs like you wouldn't believe, and its not always the same one...?!?

Anyway. can i legally wire up the 'reverse' into the indicators like they did on the old one tonners???

Will i get pull up by mr police man and get stung...????

You can buy them with the white reversing lights, I had a set of these on my old trayback.

Yeah Thanks 84xespac, i have definitely looked at them. but they look hideous. nearly all of them are ~320mm long :S nearly double what i already have.

I'll just wait to see if anyone knows there is a legal requirement to have a separate reverse light fitted. Thanks for all your quick responses.

Have a look for hella led lights

They have some nice looking models that are all ADR approved

not as cheap as some but bullet proof

I would think it's like anything if you draw attention to yourself then expect to pay the consequenses. My son has new lights in the rear of his car, the traficator is red not orange. He generally drives sensibly and has never had a problem except at rego time when he has to change them back. This will be the time you have the problem too as it won't/ shouldn't pass. Being as you only turn the reverse lights on when you reverse then ask how often do you reverse in front of a copper? Of course to avoid all that then find ones with reverse lights in them and never sweat again when being followed by the boys in blue.

You also sometimes have to meet the design rules of the day as well. That's why you see some imported Yank tanks, especially things like old Buick Rivieras, with ugly aftermarket round indicators tacked on the back somewhere. They came out in the USA with the taillight/brakelight flashing as the indicator...looks very weird to sit behind one at an intersection and see the entire red taillight blinking on and off on one side. I will say it certainly draws your attention though...

But surely your insurance would be instantly void if you don't have ADR approved tail lights especially with missing white reverse lights.

If so, you may as well cancel your insurance and keep the money as it would be the same effect.

hrmmm.... The tail lights are ADR approved. Seems to be abit to much of a hassle. If they are ADR approved, there shouldnt be a problem??

The ADR states : 8. COLOUR OF LIGHT EMITTED
The colour of the light emitted shall be white. In case of doubt, the colour may be checked on the basis of the definition of the colour of white light given in annex 4 to this Regulation.

As long as the lights and the reverse light (white) meets the ADR all is good

not sure if you have considered it but what about a small strip of white led's under the number plate so that you can virtually not see them unless on

Pearler! Yeah fat4D i'm thinking of that. i'm waiting for another forum memeber to let me know where he got his LED strip from. thinking of putting it under the number plate like you said.

Like your photoshop pic in the first post, and suggest a reversing lamp, LED 'white-optic' if you can find an ADR compliant one, mounted LEFT of the number plate.

"RIGHT" at the same position opposite the reverse lamp - is then kept for a rear fog lamp, but as they say; Australia NEVER gets bad fog or torrential rain, nor bushfire smoke that would ever warrant such a suggestion of a rear fog.

i found the same thing when i had a Pontiac Firebird, rear red taillight flashes. it needs to be changed to orange to comply with australia's funky laws.

haha makes perfect sense then.

I've been looking on ebay and can only find a reversing light which is 205mm x 40mm... (huntsman trailers, Vic) that is ADR approved but does anybody know of another company which sell them..? I'm looking for something a lot thinner so that i can make it work with the number plate in the middle. I've seen them on a couple of the other guys cars on here, Pm'd them and still no response, but its still early days....

You could also go for a couple of small round/oval lights either side of the plate, that would look pretty tidy tooo

You'll probably strike trouble with your cruise control not engaging with LED lights as well, unless you have a resistor in the wiring for the lights.
