Default AU3 Window Switch Illumination

Hi,

Just picked up an AU3 Futura. I noticed that the window switches light up at night when the headlights are turned on.

I had illuminated switches on my BA, but never knew AUs had them as well.

Can anyone with an AU3 Futura, XR or Fairmont confirm that theirs light up too? Or even AU1/AU2 owners.

Many thanks.

Do you guys know what kind of globes they take? Are they soldered in or just small wedge ones?

Cheers.

Fairly sure you have to wire up your own with a resistor, there was a thread around here somewhere, quick question as well, anybody know what bulbs are in the dash switches (aerial, window demist, lock)? I'd take a picture but i broke the bulb trying to get it out might need a new holder as well.

here ya go

No worries mate.

Just thought I'd throw in that the dash switch lights are the same style, where you need to put in the LED wrap the legs around the base of the holder and add a resistor.

Was wondering that myself. I have to go in and get some parts soon, so will ask. Surely they have to be available somewhere, likewise dash globes?

Yeah, will do mate.

I've been dealing with them for years down in Braeside. Huge place and one of the guys I deal with does have a clue when it comes to Ford parts, so should be no issue.

If they're cheap enough I'll get a whole heap on trade as I know how bloody annoying it is when they blow and not all spare parts places stock them. Hopefully be by the end of this week.

If they have heaps in stock I'll get about 50 and can post them to you or pick-up here. Same trade or will suss out either way (depends where you live).

There's a chance they'd have to get them from Ford direct, but hopefully they'll have some there. I'll also ask what other dealerships have them in stock in Melbourne. Should show up on their computer.

As far as I know you cant buy just the globes seperate. I've gone to 4 different places and still had no luck. Might have to buy brand new switches all together or buy second hand ones and chop and change swithches around to get a full set???

Would buy 14 like Kristo too if anyone can find out where to get them.

That doesn't sound good. Makes you wonder why they made the globe removable from the switch. I think new switches are about $30 or so each. Will check that avenue out as well.

Only models with 4 power windows had them. Majority of S3 Fortes had front-only power windows.

Last time I rang Ford to get some, they said they don't come separate from the switch assembly and a switch was $30 each. At the time my car had NO switch lights that functioned so would have been up for $210!

Also I couldn't find anywhere that sold bulbs that were the right fit so I ended up following the tech doc to replace them all with LED/resistor home-made assemblies which work perfectly.

I've done two cars worth now and am quite neat at it! I would 100% recommend the LED mod over replacing more bulbs.
