Default Xcal 1 Flash Tuner News

A lot of you guys tune using the Xcal 1 device from CAPA.
A lot of you guys would also know that the Xcal 1 has been made into a door stop.
Not really as bad as it sounds but this is what they are basically good for.
I have been asked to post this up by Chiptorque, one of the workshops that work on my car, and do a very good job doing it.
Basically, what the deal is, is that the Xcal 1 is a very old, and outdated unit.
We were all warned about a year ago that there would be a time int the near future that they would be made unavailable to purchase, and unable to be retuned by tuners.
The time has now come, and unfortunately, the tunes that are on it now, are the tunes that will be on it forever. We all had plenty of warning, so we all just have to suck it up and deal with it. Rest assured though, that the tunes that are on your box now, can be swapped back and forth to your car until the box dies, which may be never. So you can swap between tune 1 - tune 2, tune 1 - tune 3 etc, the boxes still work perfectly, you just cant RETUNE them.
So where do we go to from here?
Well, Herrods, who took over distribution of the SCT software units (Xcal1, 2, 3 etc) have decided that if we buy an Xcal 3 before September 30, send your old Xcal 1 that has flashed your car back to stock so it is unlocked, and the receipt for the Xcal 3 to them, they will send you a $200 rebate.
So basically, buy an Xcal 3, send in your Xcal 1 and get $200.
There is many good qualities that the XCal 3 has over the Xcal 1.
You can do things yourself without the need of a dyno, simple things like :
High Speed Data Logging and Monitoring
Features Inputs to monitor AFRs EGTs Ect
Fuel Adjustmant
Spark Adjustmant
Axle Ratio Selection
MAF Selection
Tyre Size selection
Fuel Injector Size Selection
Read and Clear OBD11 Troble codes
Disable Traction Control
Automatic Shift Control
Idle RPM

Basically a shed load of usefull stuff. KPM had a deal a while ago, $795 including 3 generic tunes (there generic tune knocked .501 off my 1/4 time in the monty) so it is worth the extra money. $595 changeover price for that many features is great money. Also Chiptorque have it for $995 including before and after Dyno runs, OR two free tunes of your choice. Both excelent deals.

So this is just an email to let everyone know a few facts, all is not lost, its just a good time to upgrade to a much better product, unfortunately at a cost, but poop happens sometimes.

Any other questions, just ask and I will try my best to answer them. Or if you have any useful info, just post it for all of us to see.

Also, dont buy an Xcal 1 off Ebay or through a forum, as they will be completely useless, UNLESS, they are unlocked, and for $100 or less, so you still get the $200 rebate and come out on top.

Josh

Spewing about that.. knew it was gonna happen sooner or later, but wish we got a bit more notice than the "Yeah, it's not gonna work as of tomorrow.."

Ah well, i'm happy with my current tune. I can't warrant forking out the extra $600 for minimal gains, unless i change something when the tax return comes in Looking like around $4k this yr

Year 2000 computer scare anyone! Their will still be tuners with the appropriate software to tune the old units, they just won't be as wide spread as before, so some searching may be required......... The new unit will have a lot more use-full functions, however with the tuning ability of the average joe, this could cause a lot of expensive mechanical damage. So in conclusion: New is better, however old is still a cost effective option........ Later.............

There is no new dongles for the old ones to be tuned, Noone will be able to tune them once there last batch of 100 is used.
And mechanical damage you say? Im sure when I get mine, Ill break a gearbox or 2 trying to find out how hard I want my shift points, lol.

Of course Monty (He states in a smart "bottom" tone!) Everyone will obviously stop having the abiltity to tune the old system immediatly the new system is implemented. Only makes sence.......... That's sarcasm for all your followers............. Later........

Mate, just back off, leave the thread alone for people who know what they are talking about. I dont need your sarcasm, Im telling you exactly what is happening, if you choose not to believe it, dont, just go away and tell people who are dumb enough to listen to you.

Mik, J3 tuning, Unichip and Chiptorque chips are also there to use. J3 would be the cheapest, and you would have the ability to tune it yourself, but could turn very expensive, very fast.

The rebate program is avaliable from every herrod/sct tuner.
No need for custom tuning unless you need a new tune.
Your tuner should have your tune file from your origional tune.
All that is needed is that tune file loaded into the X3
Depending on the tuner you should only be up for the cost of the X3 and time to load the tune into the X3.

Nice get it done before me so I can see if it's worth doing before I go for my tune :P
I'm thinking with a standard head there might not be any gain even with the cam but we will see how you go and where the gains are if any

Very interesting..
Good to see that there is still a rebate on offer.. Although personally I still see no reason to replace my Chiptorque chip with an Xcal, this is something I've had lengthy discussions with Matt from Chiptorque about..But the chip vs edit thing is a whole other thread....

I can sell you a 2nd hand Xcal 1 for $200, it will not work on your car, it can't be tuned at all, but it will be as good as any other Xcal 1 you can buy.

Any flash tuner has to be unlocked to work on another car and then tunes loaded to suit the new car, as the xcal 1 can not have tunes loaded in it, it would be worthless to a new owner, but I can sell you 1 if you insist.

I could do a group buy for the 2nd hand one I have, all who participate in the buy could take turns in using on their desk as a paper weight.

Shav, you will need to upgrade it, otherwise he wont be able to tune it.
Get in before September 30 though to get your $200 back.

Just remember though Josh , not every tuner has run out of "Hits' yet ;)
I found one in Brisbane by fluke who can still make at least 10 adjustments to my X-cal 1 ,because i am the first Ford to come through there in a number of years...

Thanks Josh and Daz. I will give my tuner a call and ask him and see what he has left for the xcal1 first. Failing that, xcal-3 will be on the cards.

Shav I'd do it now while it's cheap, if you need to tune anything in the future you will have wasted $200 and I'm sure thr xcal3 will be more fun lol
