Gday all,
When travelling along the hwy at 110-115km/h, cruise control on or off, my car sits around 3000rpm. Its an 06 LS, LX 5door. I've read about hanging revs, but its nothing like that, idles normally around 800rpm, and I dont think its an issue, just wanted to see if thats the norm? Im just comparing to my old 1.5l labncer which revved at around 2200rpm at 110km/h Thanks in advance! Cheers Chris

Yeh i got a 2007 LT zetec. sits just above 3000rpm at 110km/h... i think most cars have revs sittin lower than 3000 at 110. but im sure other guys here will expand on this..

It all varies due to diff ratios and final drive ratios which also vary between auto and manual (in some cars diff ratios even vary between autos and manuals)
it's all math and quite frankly does my head in. :S

Mines a manual - it desperately craves a 6th gear!
I'd be interested to see what the TDCi & Xr5's sit at with the 6th gear? I didnt think there was anything wrong, just wanted to make sure!

uhh, from memory mine sits at about 3500 rpm at 110km/h..... i could be wrong though. The TDCi has a different set of gear ratios and a different diff. My bet would be it sits on lower revs as it's supposed to be the fuel efficient model.

As mentioned diff and gearbox ratios will affect speed/engine revs, also changing the tyre diameter can affect the rev reading/speed ratio.

at that amount of revs does the car rattle and carry on lots of engine noise in cabin?? etc?

so whats the highway fuel consumption like at a constant 3000rpm? and do you have to rev it much higher, or drop it down gears to go up hills?

Fuel economy seems ok, on just HWY driving Im getting around 7.6.
Dont have to drop hills or rev it higher, it is nice still having drive at that speed/gear tho!

Wait till you sit on 150 all day, then you see the range indicator drop significantly, went from 800kms a tank to about 550kms a tank. Revs from memory were at about 4 Grand, so 3 Grand isn't that bad.

The table below might be of some help.
Note that it is based on the median tyre size (except for ST170 and XR5) but the differences in the rolling diameter are quite small and the impact is less than 50 rpm either way. Cheers Russ
