BF2 322mm rotors and calipers into AU

Hi All,

Before anyone asks, yes I've searched!

While it is clear they'll fit, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the brake lines are a straight fit from the BF to the AU?

Apart from that, are these a true STRAIGHT bolt on? ie, I can do this in my driveway, with ZERO mods, spacers etc?

I have a set of front discs, calipers, pads and lines here that I may as well fit but just want to check on these points before I do.

Brake lines are a straight fit. However the discs/calipers are not (I'm assuming your AU has standard brakes now) - the discs have a different "offset" and you end up with about 20mm space between the hub carrier and the caliper mount.

Yeah, standard AU3 brakes.

So no straight fit huh! Ah well, another failed brake upgrade by me.

You need the AU PBR "cobra" calipers with the correct mounting adaptor as Ford fitted with their Premium brake upgrade option. The pads from BA/BF are also different to the AU pads even though they are the same physical size - the backing is different.

The PBR upgrade is available from places like Repco for about $2500 including 4 calipers, four rotors, four sets of pads and four braided lines. PM me if you want me to check a price as I can get them pretty reasonable - also have a second hand set possibly for sale.

Being an AU3 the rotors and calipers will fit.

Wouldn't fit AU1 as they have different setup.

Gee I wish you were available two days ago - my son tried to put AU 3 premium slotted rotors onto his BA - you could have made them fit for him and saved him having to go and buy new standard BA rotors.

Jeff, i have the BF XR 322mm brakes on my AU2 pursuit and have been on there for the past 2 years and they were a direct bolt on, brake line and all, nothing was offset, all straight and perfect and they work very well too i might ad.

Considering I just did wheelbearings 5000kms ago, I could probably repack and reuse them couldn't I?

I thought the front hubs contained the bearings and are a sealed unit?

au front hubs/bearings are throw aways good for 90000 k`s ish + if i remember correctly

I know its not the 322mm upgrade, but i went to 298 mm BA brakes and calipers, and it fit straight on, though there is only maybe 1mm of clearance between caliper and 16 inch steelies.

Yeah, right you are! Got confused with my EL which I also just did front brakes on!

Sooo ... is there a difference between BA and BF then? I wouldn't have thought so but I haven't actually had BF ones off/on. Unless ... the rotors and pads my son bought (second hand) were not what they were sold as???? That's a possibility I suppose.

Well ... further to this ... I have just checked against my Premiums off the T3 and the ones we tried to fit are waaay different ... so the seller was a #@$^%^$@# and my son got sukkered. It looks to me now like they may be to suit a pre-AU.

BA rotors are bigger than AU rotors so they still wouldnt have fitted.

RAPID XR8 and a few others helped put BA brakes on all 4 corners on my car from a VERY late BA2 ute (it was painted in a bf colour).

all was a straight up fit bar 2 of the brake lines (the fronts iirc) which needed a little machining off one edge to get them to fit well.

and i just put new rotors and pads on the front of my car the other day, and yeah its a straight bolt up fit anyway, AU2onwards-BA/F

That's simply stating the obvious - else why would this thread exist? BA rotors are the same size as AU Premiums - that's the whole point.

BA and BF brakes are 298x28 ventilated front rotors and 303x16 solid rear rotors.

BF XR6T and XR8 brakes were upgraded to 322x28 ventilated front rotors and 328x26 ventilated rears I upgraded my BA XR8 ute to the BF setup and the difference was quite surprising and worthwhile.

the guys that have fitted ba/f stocker rotors 298mm and calipers to the au2, is there a big difference in the day to day feel/operation of the brakes? , i was contemplateing this one myself, just trying to gauge the mod satisfaction if that makes sense

or would you go the bigger rotors if given the choice again?

To those who can answer this question,

Will the BA? or BF 322 rotors go on my AU2 XR8? i assume i will need the caliper to suit the 322 rotors too!

Theoretically if i buy brand new slotted & drilled rotors, i will then just need to source some matching calipers, and get some pads right???

If i do this will the same brake lines fit if i was to buy some braided ones in the meantime?
