strange annoying extractors

OK, today was interesting, i got my lukeys.... sweet..... took car to mechanic..... no problems..... that was at 8:30, it wasn't until 5 pm they were finished and even then the extractors were realllllly close to the steering arm thingy... so when you put your foot on the exelerator i cant steer :( not happy, how ever, my question is: has anyone else had this problem? or did i get stuck with the set that wasn't bent properly? be interested to know if any one has had any extrator head aches?

This is correct.

If there was a fitting issue, the exhaust place should NOT have continued to fit them......I wouldn't think its not 'bent' properly - it would never had got out of the factory unless it passed inspection checks....

I think we need a picture of the issue!!

im voting picture... from memory lukey extractors fit ea-au I6 because they dont protrude much like 4480s for example so im surprised to hear they are a bit snug

The only reason you wouldn't be able to steer when you put
ya foot on the gas is if you had a broken engine mount therefore
forcing the engine to shift I would think.

ahhh... right... how ever i do doubt engine mount being broken, bloke i have doing it is very VERY methodical, due to the fact he has OCD. ill get some pics of fix and post, im very surpised at the fact that they DO and are MENT for the au however these ones seam to be have done on a friday. ill keep you all posted on what happens today. i myself am still shocked they dont fit right.

That sucks Ben, why did you go Lukey over Pacemaker? I have nearly infinite space between my 4499s and the steering arm. Either way if you get it fixed get a heat shield on them as soon as you can, these plastic brake boosters hate heat and theyre a absolute bastard to change if they crack or split.

As above take them back, then come around to my place and Ill start the car up then you'll go buy pacies guaranteed.

How much did you pay for them again? New pacies from Auto-Ex in argyle street are $380 with gasket and bolts. If you went this way, I could get you a ripper price on powder coat.

No offence but Lukey are rubbish and have a bad rep in the exhaust industry. I've had issues with they're extractors fitting on one of my old cars.. Flange didnt even line up on the head and had to be modified.

Lukeys are ok on 6's. Not sure what they are like on 8's. But the note they give over paccies is really nice at idle.

im happy with lukey, mates had them no issue there, it was a freak set that spoiled it for me, but hell i only paid 200 for the set brand spankers new in bubble wrap, and its not that i didn't want pacemakers, i thought id be diffrent its all fixed now.




thats the fix.... cut the CV bell housing : but you can see how snug it was with the housing, despite the problems and set backs, so much better now. not only that i got my money back so free extractors for me
the nearest part of the extractors are now wraped in heat tape.

actually i had a problem like that years ago with genies on my 289, the flange plates were so badly heat distorted they needed 2 extractor gasgets to get a seal......, touch wood my current lukeys are ok, the oxy sensor rubbing on the steering shaft looks a bit dodgey, you can buy an oxy sensor weld in insert for a few buks from most exhaust places, put a plug in the other, relocate the sensor.

My problem was the flange pattern. It bolted on fine, 2 cylinder ports lined up but the others were way off. So much that it leaked straight out of the head. I was scratching my head on how they managed to do it let alone sell them like that. The welds weren't complete either.

Dont. Its messy, hard to do and expensive. If you can (if you have 4490's) then just use the standard heat shield.

the heat resistant powder coat should be fine, im only used a little of this stuff repco calls cool tape just near the joint, i also noted that the thermo fans work over time would it be prudent to upgrade them if possible? thanks blueoval im happy the saga is all over too.
