hi guys,
Just a small question to throw at ya's '04 LR focus now i had to disconnect the battery, and as you may know you need to put the 4 digit code into it to get it working again, now i looked for a littled card with the code on it in the glove box as some have a card, then checked back of owners/operation manual and it has the ....... spot for the code but no code, so anywho i rang my ford dealer and had to give them the VIN and rego number and car details and usually they'll fax or ring up head office and get it off the system, but then they ring me back and say that the CD player needs to be removed to get a so called "serial number" off the back now im just wondering from some the more technicals guys out there, is there really the need for all this hassle dismantling all the CD player or would they be able to source it any other way? all comments will be greatly appreciated cheers j |

My understanding is that is the standard procedure.
The don't dismantle the radio....just slip it out of the fascia, get the number and slip it back in. A 5 minute job, but they'll charge you for at least 15 minutes (about $25 imo)

I've changed my OE Single Disc system to a OE 6-Disc in dash jobbie in my LR that was missing the Security PIN device and the Ford dealer had a special tool that clips into the system for easy removal/replacement and it took them no time at all. I can recall that there was a business-card sized piece of cardboard in the Owners Manual with the 4 digit code on it but it's easily misplaced. Go Figure.

I've heard, but haven't tried this myself, is that the security code is that last 4 digits of your VIN. maybe worth a try??

FYI, with my LR this isn't the case.

my MY08 TDCI does not have a sticker under the battery cover but there is a bar code and serial number sticker on the inside of the glovebox which has the radio code on it. I suspect when asked to provide the code dealers remove the radio and put the sticker from it ( which has the code) in some "safe place" on the car.
The code is not the last four digits of the VIN. |
