This is completely random, but I'm thinkin of going to Christchurch for a day or two...
Anything I should check out while there? This is purely for sightseeing purposes + to kill time... if I can run into any local FPV kiwis though that would be like a cherry on to of the cake. --Russ

Who was the flight thru? That is cheap. I will also agree with going to queenstown. I was there in march & it is an awesome place.

dont think I would bother with qtown - would be at least a 6-7hr drive unless you fly of course
I would seriously recommend the trans alpine rail trip - takes you from chch to the west coast accross the southern alps, would be awesome this time of year & cheap too. other than that there is the orana wildlife park and as mentioned above the antarctic centre honestly cant think off much else, chch is a nice city full of magnificent buildings and structures notorious for its nightclub strip and an excessive amount of ricers and strangely of recent times its homicides in and around the river avon wihich runs through the CBD my pick definately the trans alpine |

Hmm... regular price $298... special day-tripper rate $199
from 8:15am to 6:05pm If I find nothing better to do, this may be an option, although this trip will cost nearly as much as my flight!

That train ride was on Getaway last night (travel show) and looked good.
$50 is an unreal price! I can even get back to Melb most times for $80.

Look for a place called Fazzas, just inside thecity c entre. hard to find, but worth the search. When I was there in August, he had an F40 parked in the middle of the shop. He sells, real cars (classics, not your usual run of the mill effluent), models and magazines, with a bit of automibilia thrown in for good measure.

There is nothing in christchurch.
It is merely an international airport. I found it a complete waste of time. Head to Queenstown and do a bungey.... Get out on the Alpine and head to Fox glacier area. |

Hire cars are cheap in NZ if you hire an ex Jap import..
I hired a Toyota Corrona for $18 NZ a day unlimited klrs.. Good size for two and suit cases.. The drive over to Queenstown is top road to drive.. Very different to any roads here!! The trip isn't that long.. http://www.newzealand.com/travel/get...ristchurch.cfm

If you go down the east coast it's not arduous at all.
But the west coast will take a lo-o-o-o-ng time....although very scenic. |

The Gondola Ride out at Leighton(?) was good
Trans Alpine Train will take all day for a return trip but is a great scenic ride Do your home work - use the net - it is your friend BIGDOG
