We can wash cars properly again! (NSW)

Sydney Water residential customers can now wash cars, boats, caravans, trucks, trailers and other vehicles at their home with a hose as long as a trigger nozzle is fitted. Residents may also clean the windows and walls of homes with a hose as long as a trigger nozzle is fitted. There are no other changes to restrictions. The current business exemptions that apply to vehicles remain in place.

Current restrictions are now:

Hand-held hosing of lawns and gardens and drip irrigation is allowed only on Wednesdays and Sundays before 10 am and after 4 pm
Hosing of vehicles at residential premises is permitted only with a trigger nozzle or high-pressure water cleaning equipment (to a maximum of 10L/minute)
Hosing residential building structures including windows, walls and gutters is allowed using a hose with a trigger nozzle or high-pressure water cleaning equipment (to a maximum of 10L/minute)
No hosing of hard surfaces such as paths or driveways at any time
No other watering systems or sprinklers are to be used at any time
A permit from Sydney Water is required to fill new or renovated pools bigger than 10,000 litres
No hoses or taps to be left running unattended, except when filling pools or containers

Looks like I'll be able to wash my car properly for the first time.

by the way you were right the first time. i have a couple of 3000L tanks and use a pressure cleaner off them.

SA is currently under enhanced level 3 water restrictions.

Using a hose at your home, trigger nozzle or not, is still a violation of these restrictions.

If anybody sees you doing it, you can be dobbed in for this.

As much as I hate the water restrictions and not being able to wash my car at home the way I would like to, I also understand why we have the need for them, and obey them. They are there for a reason, not just because Media Mike felt like imposing them on us for a joke - unlike every other thing he imposes on us, I'm sure most of the other crap he comes out with actually starts as a joke beforehand.

Iv always washed my car's in the backyard regardless of water restrictions anyway.

Till Sydney water act more serious on repairing their 50+year old leaking mains, i wont bother saveing water in my household.

i think you will also find that since the restrictions started coming in all those years ago that peoples water bills will have gone up because they panic. because you are only allowed to water at such and such a time people make sure they are always watering whereas before it probably never got watered as much. I'm talking mainly gardens here.

as for washing cars in qld legally. my old man lives there and has 1 3000 and 2 5000L tanks and uses a pressure cleaner to wash cars and trucks.

where there's a will there's a way. govt rebate virtually paid for the tanks.

domestic water use is such a small percentage its not really achieving much at all anyway.

Mine's a cheap solution - 2 rubbish bins filled with rinse water from the washing machine and a high pressure washer - haven't missed out on washing the car and don't have to pay the car wash companies

i once rang water s.a. to query them about the new laws. i was basically stirring the pot so to speak. i asked if there was a limit to the size of bucket i was allowed to fill or indeed the amount of buckets i was allowed to fill. the answer to both is no. points out how stupid and illogical these laws really are. most people wash cars on the lawn. where does the water go? using a hose is now illegal but i can line up 20 40gal drums if i like and fill them to the brim to legally wash my bicycle.

to me water restrictions are a joke, they make no sense whatsoever. for example use water from buckets to wash your car and not a hose with a trigger or pressure wash - where is the logic in that? i tried it once and used more water that way so i still wash my car regardless of restrictions with a trigger hose. bugger the government and their silly rules on water when they can get their catchment areas fixed up, water mains, and getting on the backs of corporations that rely heavily on water for their business to function and get them to cut down on water use i may consider going to a car wash to wash my car and destroy my paint.

Thankfully, was sick of going to the carwash, the way they use that highpressure machine there was like whipping a slave. Last time I went my decal at the rear window wrote "FTF Car Club Of NSW" when I left the joint and went home I realised something strang, the decal now was " TF C r ub Of NSW" .

You don't use less water, thats been established, but that isn't the point. Frankly it's a pain in the butt to wash a car with buckets, so it encourages people to put it off. That's how they save water, by people not washing cars at all.

I used the hose anyway, the restrictions were a joke - did they ever measure how much MORE water you use by filling up a bucket of water to wash the suds off? they're a bunch of morons..
