hey got my hands on a mk2 escort with a 2l pinto engine. just wondering what parts make it go fast. any engine combos? thanx

i am looking to build something that isn't a pig to drive but that will still get up and go. the most i want to spend is 3 grand on the engine. it's linked up to a 4 speed manuel. 140 hp would be nice.

i been quoted nearly 3k on a very strong, only new parts and everything reground and stuff 130hp engine...so you should be able to get that easy enough

If you don't want it to be a pig to drive but still go, twin 40DCOE or DHLA40 carbies would be the way, anything bigger than 40's is generally a pig for driving around on the street every day.
You can really do quite a lot with 40's, I have them (plus a crap load of other work) and it hauls along really quick.

You can get 130 (at the fly) just by doing minor mods to the head, balanced bottom end, bigger cam, extractors and a decent exhaust, and a DFAV40 off a Capri. My RS2000 is getting that figure now. Its had the full treatment on the head and has a massive cam, balanced and blueprinted bottom end and I run it on a standard carb.....Yes, standard carb! When I was running it on a DFAV40 it was keeping up with $10,000 pintos on twin 45's. Its not how much you pay, its how well you put it together and who you take it to in the first place. Do your research, talk to the right people and it wont cost you a fortune.
