Default AHHHH license test tomorrow, any tips?

I'm going for my P's tomorrow at Frankston, my instructor says I'm ready but I'm bloody nervous.

Any tips? Also the test is at 12:45, will Frankston be easy to drive around then?

My tip is to relax and not to let your nerves get the better of you. If you've done your time on your L's you should pass no problem and once you do you'll look back and realise there was nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

EDIT: I dont live in VIC so I sont know about Frankston - you'll probably get a little bit of lunchtime traffic, but nothing you haven't seen already.

Yeah I've only done 30hrs but have had 16 lessons with the instructor.

Could someone tell me what are immediate fails?

Don't speed or go too slow. I did both (slightly) on when going for my Ps but the examiner realised that it was due to the fact that I was so nervous and just told me be mindful of my speed when I'm on the road.

The bastard also made me do a reverse parallel park up a hill. Nnnnnn! I did it just fine because I'm such a good parker :

hmmm really? I thought you lost points if you missed an opportunity to go?

I'm hoping for a 3 point turn or angle parking.

Don't do what I did, always make sure you are under a speed. Don't sit right near or on the correct speed (always below, you can easily go 5kms below without bother) or when going from say a 60-zone to a 50, don't just smoothly get down to 50 make sure you are below that speed when you hit the sign (not literally ).

Don't fret too much, it's mostly just like a normal drive. Just the one park/turn you have to do is the only part that feels like an actual 'test'.

Have a couple of stiff drinks to calm your nerves.
No, only joking, good luck mate you'll be right.
Remember when you get your P's you don't have to turn into Peter Brock.

no, because you have to feel comfortable with the Gap ... you're not forced to rush ...

Lunch time on a thursday (most likely pension day) - you might have a bit of traffic there......... less than on a saturday there though......

Good luck - watch out for prams and don't turn the stereo up !!!!

Yeah you can!

My number one tip, make sure they see you looking in the mirrors a fair bit. Check after every road or so that you've passed.

I did that, didn't speed etc, reversed paralleled and walked out with 100%.

DONT stop on the parralall lines for the pedestrian crossing at the lights, dont panic if the lights turn orange as you approach, drive through if you cant stop without throwing people forward or risk tail end smash, If you stuff up your reverse parking twice and your not confident for third attempt then dont do it and drive off. Because if you dont get it the third time I F . And mostly listen to exactly what is being asked. If you do not come to a complete stop at stop sing then I F also. when you first get into the car Seats, Mirrors, Belts. besides that your instructor has told you how to pass the test in Frankston with knowledge on what the testers look for, they will have taken you on the same routes that you will be going on so it should be automatic what you do. so don't stress or panic which is something to remember the whole time in your driving career. It's funny I was more nervouse driving for the first time with nobody in the car besides me after getting my P's. All the above comments as you'll see have one thing in common,,,,,,,,,,Relax they are looking for what you know not what you dont know, if you fail do it again, I did, much easier the second time but my score was higher the first time but I stopped on the crossing lines at the lights on an orange light with a bus plastering the front screen with passengers up the clacker, Huh was the last turn into the drive way of RTA(vicroads) moral is I paniced, thought I would get I F for running lights But opposite. good luck champ!

Just by starting this thread would suggest you're too nervous.
Get positive thoughts in your head. Keep telling yourself I'M GOING TO NAIL THIS THING.
One small tip ... put your blinker on for at least 5 seconds before puling out from the kerb.

Everyone has good recommendations..
If you are going to go for your P's in an automatic you must always brake with your right foot and never your left..Stop completely at stop signs..Continuously check mirrors and make sure the instructor knows your looking at them and yeah try not to be too nervous because thats when your most likely to stuff up

this is good advice. i went for my p's 4 months ago and failed first go. Due to speeding : i didn't go past the limit once, reason was cos ppl where telling me don't go slow (like 5-10 under) cos then the instructor might think your not a confident driver. so i made sure that i sat on the speed limit (doing 80 in 80 zone) but from where the instructor sits it looks like your doing 5klm more (cos your not looking at the cluster straight on) so he failed me. next time i made sure that i went 10 under and no probs after that :

oh and there was one other point. when u get told to pull over and stop on a hill lets say , then you get told to merge back into the traffic u must indicate for 5 seconds before leaving the curb. that one got me to, i indicated just not for 5 seconds.

lolz .. did you pass? i nudged the limit on my test by a couple of k's.. but my instructor was sweet, 100% on my driving

nothing sus!, keke

I was relaxed, i just had a mindset if I pass I pass.. no biggy , and if I would fail i'll just book again.. it's not like you're going to be dead in the coming weeks. so you have plenty of time to get your license ;)

Nope I failed but managed to rebook only 6 days from now.

It was raining hard in Frankston. There was loads of traffic and I done a right turn of a main road into a side road, the screen was fogging up so I put the demister on after the turn but didn't slow to 50 (The road was big with side parallel parks so I thought it was still 60).

So I got done at 60 in a 50 zone.

No posted signs? Or you missed them? I'd say if you failed only because of that reason, then you'll be fine next time around.

Bullshit laws about 50 unless otherwise signed on local roads, but the ones controled by VicRoads are still 60 unless otherwise signed. : Stupid Laws, unless this has changed?

Just saw this thread, and excellent tips above.

One I would add:
When I went for my Ps, I spent a bit of time on my Ls practising around the motor registry. Hell, I probably even tailed some people getting tests.

Knowing some of the roads and the lay of the land helps you feel more comfortable in the area.

Good luck

they probably aren't interested in teaching to drive.. more so.. giving you a license so you can loose it the following week.. more revenue lol :P

pay driving instructors
pay test & license
pay speeding fine the following week

however, i've been lucky over a year driving no fines (touch wood)!

Also guess what.

My driving instructor company have a guaranteed pass policy.

But surprise surprise, because I got such a high mark (97%) disregarding the Immediate fail they believe it not to be the instructors fault.

I reckon that's bullshit because if an instructor says you're ready then you should be ready.
