Hey guys,
Hope his question doesn't ensue any lively debates hahaha..... But anyways I have found a sierra 5-speed in my local trading post and wish to fit it to my 1979 4 door escort. My questions are; 1. Will my tail shaft need to be shorted or anything drastic like that. 2. Will the manual transmission tunnel need any modifications. Also any other pointer would be great. Cheers James |

It should bolt straight in. The tailshaft should be OK for length too. You may have to cut a hole further back for the shifter, I know in Mk1's the shifter sits about 2" further back with the Sierra box. |

Depending on the tunnel (some are narrower than others) the original rear gearbox mounts (that are welded to the floor) may need moving as the box is a fair bit wider and won't fit. You'll also need a longer speedo cable.

Hi got a sierra 5 speed box in My RS .use a auto cross member and its a straight bolt up,though you need to move the gear lever hole back 2-3" and use a cortina 4 cyl(longer) speedo cable.
The ratios are no different to stock your just getting the 5th gear OD for express way use only. |
