Just dropped the AU 1 Forte into Northwest Ford for a service this morning. He just rang me back and let me know the results... and there is plenty to talk about... :(

Oil was shizzled (i own car for 1yr 3mths i no change yet, my bad)
Back left hand door actuator shizzled (i knew this)
Top and Bottom radiator hoses are SWELLED (is this bad?)
I have leaks from numerous places (can't remember what he said, will repost them when i see the report.)
Leaking exhaust (reccommend replacing from the cat back.)

There's a quite a few more aye. i can't remember them coz it was a phone call and i aint quick enough to write it all down. but when i get the report i'll post em. also getting the recalled steering rack done.

This is the result of someone who didn't start enjoying/looking after his car until it is too late, don't get like me...ever. Can;t wait... might just sell it...

Mate those arent major problems at all.

Yes you may as well replace those swelled hoses now before they burst on you in the middle of nowhere - call it preventative maintenance.

The exhaust can now be upgraded into something you like and factory ones only last a few years these days so if yours is the original one it had a good life.

The door actuator isnt a major hassle if you can live without getting it fixed.

The oil leaks might be simple and just needing bolts to be tightened so dont stress just yet. Just change the oil more regularly in future and the car will last you years.

Radiator hoses are cheap from Ford ... I replace mine last time.
Need to do oil more often though.

If you want costly .... do what I just did .... and pay out $1300.

List:
replace steering rack
replace power steer pump
replace power steer high pressure hose
install transmission oil cooler
flush auto fluid completely and replace
flush diff fluid and replenish and put Nulon additive in
LPG convertor flush and service.

I recently replace the oil pressure switch.

I still have a leaking sump gasket ... but will change it when it statrs gushing out ... I really don't want to drop the crossmember (PITA job)

sounds good. yeah i'm getting the actuator fixed coz i'm sick of pulling up somewhere (like the shops) and not realising the door is unlocked. so far no break ins but ya never know. $250 for that to be replaced.

also remembered that there was a extension housing gasket needs replacing
and they reckon i need 3 tyres replaced... they all look good to me

FTG Auto Salvage sell these (used, but working) for around $70-80, and they take approx 20 mins to fit. Bugger paying someone $250! FTG do postal orders too, just in case you live nowhere near them.

well here's the list of recommended replacements:

Drivebelt $120
Radiator and heater hoses and coolant $250
Exhaust replacement from cat convertor back $500
Extension housing seal $130
Fuel Filter $75
Front brake discs and pads $450
Front sway bar link bushes $125
Vehicle also requires 3 new tyres and Front allignment adjustment
Please note: price on front pads are for non-genuine pads.

seriously i'll sort the tyres out at my own pace, there really not as bad as he thinks they are, and i'll save for a full exhaust system 2.5" with some headers in due time. but i guess the rest will have to go down on the credit card next week??

I would seriously consider a second quote, some of those prices seem excessive, the hoses for starters.

1. The exhaust is way too dear. A 2.5 inch system from cat back is far cheaper than that. Heaps of guys here have got them. Casper was talking to someone about it a few days ago, most exhaust joints would do it far cheaper! I think Casper was talking about MIDAS or someone like that? PM Casper if you want. JC is another one to PM, he's got good info on prices and such.

2. Dba slotted rotors and Bendix Advance Pads would also be far better and cheaper than Ford ones. I think they are around the 100-120 mark each for the rotors? Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

3.Ring Pedders for a price on the sway bar link bushes.

4. Sepentine drive belt should be much cheaper, round $45 (2004 price)

5. Remotes on ebay for $30-40 odd.

6. Michelin are doing a 4 for 3 tyre deal until 30/4/06. Michelin XM1's for my Series 2 SR will cost $550 fitted with a wheel alignment (Bob Jane Broadmeadows). They are a good tyre, quiet with good handling and comfort.

Don't know about the other stuff, but mate, sounds like you are getting ripped!
