Been to every State and Territory many times (except Tassie, only been there once), I am an old bloke

Borders are lines drawn on a map, except the Murray, NT is similar to other places, long straight roads, one could talk about the longest straight road called the Nullabor, but hey NT is "different"

Should be atleast 130km/ hr in every state. Cairns to Brisbane is as long as the NT.

Along with this we will soon have...

Banned fire works.
Boat license.
Boat registration.
Fishing license.
100's of kilometers of coast line handed back to a minority group.
Watering down of public drunkenness laws.
The list goes on . I can already sense a lot of voter remorse.

The NT is now run by a dictator with absolutely no opposition.

Read the last couple of lines of the above article. Apparently speed limits will stop road trains from tail gating ...... The looney left will say anything to justify its dogma.

With that I must agree. But the amount of damage that will be done in the next four years will take much longer to repair. That's if it's fixable. We are still suffering from the mess that Clare Martin created.

Whilst I'm all in favour of open speed limits up there it's only 336k's that it's allowed anyway, plus 130 is not a bad cruising speed.

I don't think that 100k's of coastline will be missed knowing how much there is there.

The rest that you've mentioned seems like they want to bring it into line (along with the accompanying revenue) with the rest of the country.

Most here don't won't to be like the rest of the country. And those hundreds of kilometres of coast line is prime recreational fishing waters. Soon to be locked up for a special few.

And I have to agree with Outbackjack - most Territorians don't want to be in line with the rest of Aus, I really enjoy being different to the states and it was refreshing coming from NSW a few years back.

Without going too political, I'm thinking voters remorse may occur too.

I ended up rock climbing and camping in Umbawarra Gorge and put up new routes and bolted them- back when it was very unknown.

Now I understand there is a clamping down in Umbawarra Gorge as regards climbers and bolted routes. Ah well- I bolted some classics at a time that only naked hippies ambled down the gorge....

I now live in NSW and can go climbing in the Blue Mountains and bolt new routes if I want- and can camp many places for NO fees.....living in the NT if under the umbrella of the authorities is VERY controlling and restrictive to your personal freedoms- but you can get freedom away from the idiots- just go remote bush.

Problem are all the idiots that are out in the bush in the NT.

Not to mention all the reality's we are not aloud to talk about nowadays due to all the great love of Political Correct Nazis types, due to people that are in love with lies, or just brain dead dreamers with no handle on reality that love to go about pushing anyone around that is not on the same page as them.

It has to be as it is in the NT due to the reality's of the place.

I'm confused about this. I've been in the NT since 1973 and I can assure you that the Speed Limit has always been, and will always be, political in one way or another. Therefore separating them out is impossible.

Just returned from towing a caravan for a half circle from Darwin to WA and over the Nullarbor and back up the centre. First time in WA and was re-educated as to what we thought that the Nullarbor would be like. Firstly, the notion of "an endless treeless plain" is rubbish as this more applies to the Transcontinental Railway Line area and not the highway which seemed to have bugger all of anything meeting that description. Secondly, the "longest straight" is misleading as there are so many rolling hills that you never see much of the straight. There are stretches of the SA & NT Stuart Hwy with less plant coverage and visible long straights. Met one tourist who was also disappointed with it because it was too green.

Although I'm not likely to ever exceed a 110Kph limit (WA - 100Kph) while towing and so 130 will remain out of reach, I do appreciate the effort that has been done to upgrade the current unlimited stretch in so many ways. Unfortunately I can now see that level of upgrade not being extended and in all likelihood there may be a downgrading in ongoing maintenance, particularly verge clearing.

Chairman Gunner has already announced 1 million cut in road maintenance/upgrade funding. The 130 is all about $$. Plod will also be out there scraping in the $$ as well.

Not as far as I know. There are some petitions going around to keep the status quo. But Gunner thinkswe all want to be safe. Thatswhy he got elected. It had nothing to do with the ABC and the AEC. Apparently.

Thank God for Michael Gunner - for now I am saved from the devastating death and tragedy brought on by unrestricted speed zones.

The amount of voter remorse here is palpable. How so may people got it so wrong is amazing. We are already planning our exit from the Territory. Drunks and itinerants are already getting cocky. With two daughters its just not worth the risk any more. RIP motoring freedom.

It's classic isn't it? The amount of people I've had to say "did you actually look at what Gunner's plans were when you voted or did you just blindly get on board with the 'I hate Adam Giles' crowd?" to is crazy.

Sorry, I've gone a little political there
