Default slower with 17's on a WT Fiesta

anyone else noticed a loss of torque after fitting 205/40r17 tyres to a CL or LX Fiesta?
mine feels similar around town but on the highway and up long hills i have to chop back more
eg: a hill i travel on everyday i could do 4th gear 105km/h and i could get to 110km/h now i was losing speed and by the top i was lucky to be doing 100km/h flatout.
the tyres are only 2% taller so I would have though it would make no difference
I was going to do a hill climb in it with the new wheels and tyres but i might put the stock conti's back on for it
if i do track it ever i might just get 2 15in mags with 205/50r15 or 195/50r15 semi slicks for the front and leave the 17's on the back

bigger rims an/or heavier rims will make the car slower to accelerate

it loses speed where it used to gain speed. so nothing to do with speedo reading lower. rims are no heavier than the stockies, but the tyres are cheapies so probably more rolling resistance than the stock continentals?

Maybe its geared the car differently due to size difference.

Is your 2% figure taking into account the overall rolling diameter of the tyres?

yeah dia is now about 595mm and stock 584mm so 1.9% approx.
so at the same rpm i'm going 2% faster
i wouldn't have though 2% would have made any diference really

a 17" rim, even the same weight as a 15" rim will acclerate slower because there is more weight further from the axis, taller tyres will also make it accelerate slower

I went up a size with both the Festiva and the Focus and instantly felt a difference. I did it to drop the revs on the freeway and the Festiva had an uncommon size making it a little costly.

In both instances my Speedo went from being a little slow to being spot on. Take off was a little more sluggish but it spun a little slower on the freeway.

After a month you will get used to it.
