Hey guys,
Just got a few questions about the xr5's I'm thinking about getting rid of my xr8 as driving toand from ringwood to Clayton each day for work is getting rather expensive :s I used to sell xr5's so know them pretty well and have driven them and I know how good they are to drive. My question is what are they like on a day to day basis, as in average fuel consumption, (mines 15.8l/km) and Basic running costs etc... Thanks

Here's a thread on Focus fuel consumption, there's a couple of XR5 owners have posted fuel consumption figures here

most people average between 8L/100kms and 15L/100kms with the vast majority in the 9-11L/100kms for day to day. I know I had mine for just shy of 60,000kms and averaged 11.1L/100kms over the life of my ownership and 40,000kms+ of that it was modified at varying stages...... As long as it's serviced regularly they are easy as to own... only thing is you'll want to run on 98 all the time... and when the MOD bug hit (which I can see it already has with your current xr8) it hits hard cause there's so many easy mods for it to be an absolute weapon and quickly.

Mine, albeit it modded is returning 10.3/100 with a fairly fuely tune aswell with some occasional spirited driving. On the highway its around 9L/100.
They can be hard on tyres thats one thing, mines done 47k kms and im up for my second set after the factory conti's. If you are looking at mods they do respond very well to the basics ie Tune-FMIC-Exhaust and intake. Mine has served me well in the almost 2 years ive had it, facelifted (LV) models had most of the problems sorted and im pretty sure the last of them, 2010 onwards got the stronger RS block aswell. I went from a V8 to the XR5 and i love it i only miss the V8 note thats it. And surprise many of them now.

Might be something with LV Focus because I killed the front tyres on my TDCI in about 25,000km and I didn't really drive it hard and kept on top of pressures.

Just adjusted the link for you
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-2008-12819813 Damo I have nearly 24,000 k's up on my Zetec now and the tyres look to have heaps of life left yet On the other hand the GT Diesel Golf I had prior to buying the Focus went through the first set of factory Conti's before 25,000 k's. There is a bit more weight in the front with the diesel engine as well but the main factor I'm sure is the amount of torque being sent to the front wheels |

I quite like those 'factory' FPV badges, don't mind the 'custom' rear bumper too......
I feel ripped that my XR5 wasn't custom built..... |

LX is a model in the range not a model designation whereas LV is the model designation for the MKII facelifted focus.
