Default eb v8 auto wont manual shift when cold

because i only drive it every now and again i havnt noticed it , but i pulled it back to 3 and it wouldnt go in and then to 2 and still nothing . tried this twice over the weekend and only happens when its cold . checked oil etc
any ideas before i pay bucks to get it fixed

umm thats interesting, wen my auto was "dieing" it went awesome wen cold, but as soon as it warmed up, it would loose 1st gear completely started to loose 2nd gear and reverse was non existant! LOL
4speed auto.

As I understand it if the trans sensors are out of range then it will not allow manual shifting and adopts different shifting sequences too. Not sure is the trans temp sensor can cause this or if it is just related to line pressure (which won't be ideal until the trans its hot). Usually these things get worse the older the trans is.

The 1st thing i would try clean the filter as when my filter was dirty my auto played up heaps after a good clean it was fine.

is yours a 6 or an 8 because i know the boxes are different but worth a service first i suppose
