NC Fairlane Ghia - power window issues

After replacing my rear passenger power window motor and regulator the other day, I was doing a final test-run of all windows from the front, and found that the driver's side rear window didn't want to go down. I feared the worst. However when I tried it from the rear switch, the window went up and down as normal.

So, I assumed it was a fault with the console switch assembly in the front. I removed it, gave it a good cleaning with contact cleaner and carefully sanded the offending contacts with 1200 grade sanpaper. I put it all together and nothing was different. So I thought, the switch must be dead in a way that is unrepairable.

Today I went down to my local Ford spare parts retailer and laid down the $174.80 for a new switch assembly. I then went to the carpark and tested it straight away. No difference.

I then found out the hard way of this retailers refund policy regarding electrical parts (ie they don't do them). Very unhappy.

Anyway, does anyone know where my problem may lie, given that both switches are functional, but the window can only be wound down from the rear. This is of particular concern, as I'm currently trying to sell the vehicle, and would like everything working 100%.

I had a similar problem with my NC, the rear window would go down using the switch on the door, and wouldnt go up using the centre console switch... i just gave the door and the console a few good hits, seems to have fixed the problem... tho i don't know what caused it in the 1st place cauz they have been working fine since I had the car, and the regulators were replaces just before i brought it.

Are you getting power to the front switch.

i'd say the front control panel is crook. what happens is they get dry-joints in the solder
i need to replace mine, only the drivers door window works of the front panel.

ive tried resoldering all the joints, worked for a little while and gone again

you'll find the contol panel is around 120 odd new

I haven't checked this as it looked too complicated to do but I'll have a good look at it tomorrow. I was thinking that given the other windows are working from the front switch, it wouldn't be a power issue as I thought they would use the same power source. Twould be handy to have a wiring diagram handy right now. Does anyone know where I can get one online?

MadNC8, what do you mean by 'control panel'? I have already replaced what I describe as the front switch with a new one. Is this the control panel you speak of?

yeah i was talking about the console switch panel
if you've replaced that then its obviously not the problem:P

so does that mean that your old centre console switchboard still works 100%?

Tis handy to have a spare. I cooked my spare :S

No, I actually left the old one in there. I'm going to have a little chat with the Department of Fair Trading about the brand new one i have.
