Default 08 focus key

Hey guys, need some help, bought a flip key blank on eBay $25, and put all the electronics into it from an old focus that got written off last month. Got the key cut ($40)and I programmed the remote as per manual. Now the doors open no problem, the key turns but the car doesn't start!!! what's going on???

there is a transponder integrated into the key that de-activates your immobiliser

cutting the key will open doors, re-programming the remote will again also open doors

but the electronically encrypted chip embedded into the key will only de-activate the immobiliser it was made for

this is part of the reason Ford justifies the monstrous price tag for cutting a new key

Can your friendly Ford dealer activate the key blank if it has a chip in it?

to unlock the doors/boot/bonnet

also if someone can make a few dollars on eBay they will. Having said that, many/most of the listings on eBay that I've seen do say outright in their listings that they WILL NOT start the car

probably not, I don't think the blank keys have the chips in them. That's why Ford - and just about every other car manufacturer - charges an arm and a leg and usually takes weeks for a spare key to come in.

Yes, you need to take all the keys to the ford dealer. It will take a while to do, they need to program ALL the keys to the particular car at one time.

And they usually have a tiny window with Europe to do it, for security reasons.
