Changing a Thermostat

After reading posts that the problem with the rising temp all it needs to be fixed is a 3mm hole drilled in the thermostat.
What am i supposed to do to get the thermostat out, because i had a new one put in, but it still goes up to the M and then down to the L after about 5km of driving.

undo the two 13mm bolts pop the thermostat out drill a 3mm hole clean up the metal filings created, and drop it back in, do up the bolts, if the engine is cold, you should loose about 200ml of coolant in the process no big deal.

Is the car really hot or is the guage telling you it is? Have you replaced the Guage Sender? It could be that. Have you tested the Rad Cap? could be it too. So many things.....

Drilling the hole really wont fix temp? AU Falcons had this done as a recall.

temp is fine, just as i first drive it does the rising.
but in changing the thermostat, so much coolant was gushing out after a few turns and wouldn't stop. Is it normal for it to do that?

Yes mate. There is residual pressure and that would force it out and also you have a fair amount of water in there.

I would most definitely check the Temp sender. (part numbers XF10884A or EB10884A)

Make sure you put a NEW seal around the thermostat and that the mating surfaces of the Thermostat housing and the outlet hosing have no pits or anything of the sort. One other thing, make sure the car is COLD before you add more water. EA, B, D Heads can crack VERY easy.
