Default EB FALCON S (SERIES 2) Good Buy??

Hey Guys!

I'm new here...Obviously! I'm looking to buy my first car and by by name, I'm into EBs. I found an EB2 S for around $1000, but the con is that it has a busted gearbox, and the bonnet was replaced with a green ED one.

What I was wondering is, is this worth it as I dont know all that much about cars and how much is a new gear box. Its a 5 speed by the way.

here is the ad and some pics.

92 EB S SERIES2

1992
Black
245897km
Air Conditioning, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM Stereo, Cassette Player, Climate Control, Power Locks, Tilt Steering Wheel, Tow Bar, Rear Spoiler.

10 MONTHS REGO NEEDS NEW GEARBOX ALL ELSE IN CAR IS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER , INTERIOR IMACCULATE, VERY RARE CAR AT VERY GOOD PRICE

REASON FOR SALE;

GOT SICK OF CARS WHEN GEARBOX DIED SO I BOUGHT A BIKE.

Any help would be greatly Appreciated!

Doesnt sound too bad, being a busted 5spd it may have had a fair bit of thrashing though. Probably about $1500 for a new 5spd?

So would it really be worth my while, or just looking for another EB? The Black does look nice though :P

you could get the t5 rebuilt for about $1000 maybe less, 245,000 k's isn't bad out of a t5 so it's probably just due for a rebuild. Though looking at the bonnet and front bar, i'd assumed it has been in a head on. Maybe best to look at other EBs, the manuals are very rare though as i'm in the market for one too.

Good luck with it, and welcome to the forums.

Thanks! Yeah that doesnt sound to bad, as I would prefer a manual and I like the black. It was in a minor accident but was all fixed up. Just respray the bonnet, get the gearbox fixed and of course get another front bumber to replace the nasty grey one....

If you do decide to get it, then just spray the bar when you get the bonnet done, it's the same bar, the red striping is cheap too. Much easier than finding a good condition black front bar.

If you're willing to put time and money into then go for it! Realistically there is a lot that can go wrong in a car of this age, but it just means a little more effort and patience is required... and not buying a motorbike.

I remember before I bought my first car I was looking at a black EB S, and they certainly look stunning when in good condition.

well, I asked the guy some questions and here are the replies I got:

I asked what the paint was like...

the black paint really just needs a good polish but the bonet and front bumper need to be resprayed ;-)

--------------------

Asked was the accident bad or minor and asked why the gearbox packed it in.....

the accident was relativley harmless apart from the bonet and and bumper the gearbox packed it in because i drove the car to hard and finally after years of torture she died ;-)

Doesnt reassure me that much, but what do guys think? Should I offer him a low price and see if he takes it?

for a grand, you really cant go wrong with that car mate...

another couple grand and it will be a sweet car, and you'll still be out in front.

oyu can pick up a seccond havd ea/eb box for around 600 - 1000 if you look hard enough, and if the engines crook, you can get an EL engine fairly cheap

have it checked over by a mechanic though. if the front rails are bent it could turn really rexpensive really fast...

Trading post have t5's cheap every now and then, or the forsale section on here they come up every now and then, i think there are 2 for sale in our for sale section at present. Also www.fordmods.com for sale section. A new clutch and flywheel machining should set you back about $230 for a standard clutch.

Offer the guy like 700 if you're keen.
