Default BoZZas Weekend + Questions for box conv.

hey,

just some info on what ive been up to and some quesitons i have:

last week i bought a smashed ea 5 speed... it has rebuilt engine and xr6 cylinder head on it (by jmm)

ok so i spend the weekend pulling the engine and 5speed out the car (using mongrel eb and gli90's manual conversion engine out guide) you guys rock, love the guide..

ok so now ive got the engine and box sitting in the garage i was looking under the dash's of both cars

and my eb series 1 (that the engine and 5speed is going into) has a huge 4speed auto controller box right up against where the clutch pedal is going to go.. what have you other guys done when converting? do you just unplug the 4speed controller box and leave the loom hangin? or do you leave it all connected and just try and get the clutch pedal in and leave them right next to each other?

oviously this question is only for the 4speed ea2's and eb1's. any info would help heaps.

the plan is to get the engine and box in the car next weekend so will post up some pics ect... just waiting ona usb cable for the camera.

thanks guys
specail thatnks to mongreleb and gli90

-BoZZa

ta for the responeses
looks like just chuckin the ecu out and leavin the loom in, is the way to go.

also anyone know if there is a re-enforcer yet for the firewall?
(i know my old 5-speed's firewall had to be re welded)

is there like aplate i can buy from somewhere so i will never need my firewall to be welded?

I dont believe there is a aftermarket plate that i know of, but id get a plate welded on ASAP to save a nice hole being created ;)

apparrantly there was a ford part for an XD/F or something which required a little modification to fit... makes you wonder tho, if they had that problem back then, wtf didn't they make that area stronger in the E series cars?

The thing you are talking about is a metal plate used on XD-XE 6 cylinder manuals. The set up on XD-XE is totally different. There's a hole in the firewall for the clutch cable, however it's different to the E-series hole. XD/XE V8s have a hydraulic clutch, 6 cylinder had a cable. There's a hole with two studs either side of it, the master cylinder in V8s bolts up there and the clutch cable on 6 cylinders goes through that hole. Auto had a blanking plate. The hole is a good square inch big, not like the small hole on E-series.

I believe XF is the same as e-series, I could be wrong though. XF had a revised firewall so they may have done away with the provision for a hydraulic clutch.
