Default PS2 or Xbox and inverters

I was told that you need a pure sine wave inverter to run a PS2 or an Xbox. Is that true? Apparently you risk blowing up the console and/or inverter if you use a modified sine wave inverter.

i tried to run my psone off a modified inverter and it wouldnt start
think its to do with the power pack/adaptors they need decent power to work correctly (And output a constant signal) or something.

I don't know much about inverters, but I have read a couple of places that sensitive electronics need one with a sine wave output

PS2 will un fine
Xbox may make noise off a modified sinewave inverter.
The CPU in the xbox needs the pure wave, like a laptop.
Otherwise they will hum or squeel.
