Not sure what area to post this in, but I put a boss kit and aftermarket steering wheel in my te yesterday and now the wheel sits about 45mm or so closer to me.
Is this normal or did I do somthing wrong?

I had the same issue in my XE ESP.
I got SAAS to machine down the BOSS. This was done Free of Charge when I spoke to them about the issue I was having.........mind you this was about 10 years ago. You might want to try the same thing ??????? You just have to watch the depth of the retaining hex bolts. It may be necessary to get shorter units. Off memory, SAAS had to re tap mine. |

There’s actually two different sized steering columns with the TE Cortina. The longer column is in the Ghia which has the four spoke wheel with a huge plastic spacer behind it. The GL has a much shorter column, approximately three inches shorter.

mines a GL and has a plastic spacer.
I cut the edges off the platic spacer that use to go onto the steering wheel and put the boss kit infront of it as you can see the metal shaft without the plastic spacer.. The boss kits seems to be on alright but it pushed up against the plastic spacer when you tighten the bolt.

Are you sure you couldn't get a different boss? I had the same problem with my XF, and took it back to where we got it and swapped it with another boss that was much thinner.. Problem this time was that it was too close to the indicator stalk, so we had a spacer made up by a local engineer for 20 odd bucks and it worked a treat.
