Default Got my car, got my car, got my car!

Yeah!!!

Rock on!!!

I am LOVING my new car!!! :

90,000km... immaculate interior (and a car detailing sticker inside the door might be a good clue here)... thankyou to a guy in Wahroonga for taking such good care of this car!!!

The only... ONLY... thing I can fault it on is when I crank the a/c and am zooming along, there is a whistling wind noise through the vents. I can sort of drown it out with the radio. Any thoughts?

I'm off for another drive!!!

You dont need an 8 to beat an 8, there are plenty of na 6's out there giving the 8's a good run for there money and also beating some. Is not the size of the engine in the car,but the amount of race in the driver!

If you can't have the one you want, want the one you have...go and give it a wash,look at her beautiful lines,lift the bonnet and kiss that engine.....or sell it and buy a magna. There are many people on these forums and ones that see you drive past who would love to have your car, and you dont even appreciate what you have!

nice buy... how much did you pick it up for, if you dont mind me asking.
by the way.. wheres the pics!!

bucky, i know exactly how you feel about your 6... I will tell you again.... dont waste yout cash on turbo-ing your xr6, honestly i think the best thing for you to do would be to get a BA Fairmont Ghia V8, and if you need your dose of rice, chuck a typhoon kit on it!....
I love the sound, couldnt care for a 6 or turbo'd 6 now to be honest.

Phew! I'm home... man, that was F-U-U-N

I'm going to reverse her out into the sunlight tomorrow morning and take pics. I just didn't have time today... it was just a mad day of lots of driving and 1:1 bonding with the car (phhwooaar!), showing it to family members, etc. They thought it was great. Even my Dad, who drives a 2006 model XR6!!!

As for how much she cost... $14,990 was the damage. Believe the dealer was trying $16,990 and no one was biting. As I said, 90,000 on the clock, car is absolutely immaculate and was obviously well cared for. Looks like the boot's never had anything in it. Runs really well. Just very, very happy with it.

As it turned out, the whistling nose went away, so it must have just been leaves or something.

But, isn't this always the way, a new problem emerged... the 6 CD in dash sound system seems to have swallowed two of my CDs and won't give them back... nor will it play them either... gah!!! And now when I try and play the radio, it kicks into CD mode every 30 seconds, tries to play the CDs, realises it can't and goes back to the radio for 30 seconds... before it tries to play the CDs again.

Oh well, if the very worst I can say about this car is that the CD is flaky and needs looking at, I am a lucky man Pictures, as I said, when the sun comes up tomorrow.

ohhh.. nice... just swear at the CD player, hit it between your choice words.. usually that makes the thing cough them up!

I dont know what you should be paying for the AU honestly, but to me that sounds a bit much, only because BA's are going for around that price at the moment... but as i said.. i dont really know the condition.. and it sounds A1 from what you have said.

a couple cds for a great new car sounds like a great trade! Congrats on the buy and like everyone said, you better get some pics up soon!

Well, I looked around, and I could get a nice BA XT or the odd Futura with similar low Km's and overall condition for, say, 13K or 14K. But honestly, comparing a BA XT to an XR6 VCT isn't really a fair comparison. Too many nice features on the VCT model to go past. Remember, the VCT was 42K or thereabouts when it came out... the BA XT was about 10K less when it was released 24 months later - and it shows in a lot of areas. No, I'm more than happy with taking a step back from the BA era and getting a LOT more car for the money.

Well, the way I see it, raw power's not everything. It's great for going in straight lines, sure, but as someone who spent many years throwing a 1.6 litre MX-5 around twists and turns that others feared to tread, I know there's something to be said for handling - and the VCT handles better than a bog-standard BA XT (which is the kind of car you are saying I could have bought, for the same money instead, which is why I use it as the main comparison point here). I mean, we're talking IRS versus live axle for starters! And, having said that, it's not like the VCT engine's a slouch either... this is the engine, let's remember, that when the Tickford boys were finished with it, was just a few kw below the Windsor-based XR8 of its time (172kw versus 175kw), which forced Ford to upgrade the XR8 so it wasn't merely on par with its 4.0 litre cousin...! It's a cracker.

Yes, I did my homework on this car before I plumped down my hard earned

That I6 will never sound like a V8 at 5000+rpm though worth every penny, in my case every litre of PULP.

I also drive a I6 sometimes myself its not a VCT and it doesnt go to bad, so yours should be a dream to drive, enjoy it mate.

Couple of wrong facts mate
BA XT and XR6 VCT are both IRS
The same model XR8 Was either 200kw or 220kw depending what month it was built (probably 200kw)
Anyway hurry up and get some pics up we wanna see

Yes, the same model XR8 was pulled up to 200kw by Ford because this model brought the game up to where the V8 had been, previously. I didn't say there was a crossover, I was pointing out that they had to up the ante on the Series 2 XR8 because the XR6 VCT had caught where it had been, ie: there are people zipping around in Series 1 XR8s with no more kw than the Series 2 XR6 VCT. That's the point I was making on that. And I was only making it in the first place not to start an argument about 6's versus 8's, but there seemed to be some inference that the XR6 VCT was a bit of a slouch, and I thought it might be worthwhile to toss in that it was on par with the Series 1 XR8, so not exactly a slouch in my book at all.

Congrats on on your new car & it's greart to hear your enjoying it. Just replace you Ford radio with a after market.

Now just to set you straight on the the power of XR8 v's XR6 VCT, both when release was AU XR8 was 185kw & the XR6 VCT was 172kw. The 175kw motor was fitted to Frote, Fairmont & the likes.

Gotcha, thanks mate. I had been led astray by the listing on Wikipedia, but have now re-read it properly. I will post it here so everyone can see that I now have the gist of the series one V8s

* 5.0L 185 kW 412 nm XR8
* 5.0L 200 kW 420 nm FTE T-Series

Pictures are forthcoming...!

While it is close in the power stakes, the VCT is still down on torque by enough to matter.
