Default Seat of the pants excitement

Was just wondering what people forund to be their best seat of the pants performance mod?

There's lots of talk of people improving by 5kw's here and .4 of a second at the drags there, but the majority of people don't go to the drags that often do they?

I know I might only go 2 or 3 times a year and I drive my car everyday.

So the question is: Whats the most enjoyable, seat of the pants excitement modification you have done to your car?

3" exhaust on the XR8. Fair bit noisier than standard.

XR suspension.

Even without the go hard mods, you get lots of driving pleasure being able to punt faster through corners, round roundabouts etc with stiffer suspension!

Car looks nicer a little lowered also!

Near empty fuel tank and a really cold morning, just after you clean it. Is it me, or does the car always feel faster in these conditions?

Honestly, the 3inch exhaust.. its a unique one off sound that puts people in neck braces from snapping their heads too fast to look and see whats coming

I'm thinking a histall and diff change (approx $2000) is at least the equal of a manual conversion (over $2000) on the 1/4 in an AU I6.

Histall was certainly the best seat of the pants mod in my car anyhow.

See this is what makes me laugh. You bag auto owners for having autos, so they give it back, and you instantly get on the defensive.

Bit insecure are we? : :

Both transmissions are fine! It's everyone to there own opioun! Everyone just needs to calm down n get the hell ova it!

That's the 1 problem with this forums sometimes....People take things to heart!

Build a bridge n get ova it!

My prefence would be manual!

But i drive an auto!

So lets more on n stay on topic!

The last bit is the most important thing you have said in this thread. Yes, manuals are great for direct control of take-off, launch speed etc, but most (fast) drag cars are autos. Most race cars (circuit etc) are manual because of the engine braking capability of a manual, but autos have raced successfully in the past at Bathurst etc. Just not as successfully as a manual.

The Ford 4 speed auto is slightly slower than the manual for a variety of reasons, one of which is to ensure that you don't get ferocious wheelspin when towing a 2 tonne caravan. Something you can't do for a long time (say around Australia) in a manual without upgrading the clutch etc, which usually means the clutch action becomes heavier and you end up with a left calf twice the size of our right.

As Casper and others have said, upgrading the components in an auto can make it just as much fun, if not more so, than a manual. Would you still like a manual starter, or do you like your auto one? Manual is old technology, and I would say that in 10 years time, manuals will almost be phased out with the way sequential and semi-auto gearboxes are progressing, but so as long as you are happy with old technology, that's fine; have fun posting on AFF in 2 years time with your 286.

I must agree, the manual sure has changed the whole drive-ability of the car. Not to mention, faster and more powerful, but more controllable as well. It really depends on the type of driving you do.

Next to that, would have to be the Wheels! Fashion over function boys ;)
