AU Falcon "DTE" LCD Read Out

bought a 2001 falcon futura classic series 2 model last friday. i fueled the car up yesterday and restted the "DTE" readout, then today I piut $10.00 worth of fuel and it would not let me reset the "DTE" Readout. is this because it will only reset when i reset it from empty.

when i fueled up yesterday to full it said i had 720km to Empty. Then today when i filled up i had 487km to empty but i filled it up again this arvo to full mark but when i went to reset it it would reset to 720km.

Im assuuming that it will only reset form a full tank,.

any hele be grateful.

AFAIK the DTE function is automatic you can only reset the trip meter at least thats the case in the S3

ok so its a waste of time me pressing the reset button for the DTE (distance to Empty ) Function. confusng seing 484km on DTE Readout when when i filled it up said 720 then topped it up tonight with 10 dollars to full and now wont reset to 720

au3xr6 is correct, the DTE is calculated by the computer based on driving style for the last lot of trips etc. If you drive the car hard, you will see a DTE in the range of 450 to 550 (maybe less in stop/start traffic), on the highway, figures up to around 900 have been reported (but not verified AFAIK). The Trip meter is the only thing that you can reset.

You may have been confused in the first place by pressing the odometer reset button once (without holding) which toggles between distance travelled and DTE. The one with the decimal point is distance travelled - the other is DTE. To reset distance travelled, you need to toggle to that display, then hold the button in for about 3 seconds and it should reset to 0.0.

Well this is how I figure it ...

Fuel is wasted when accelerating. Therefore don't slow down. Hence no need to accelerate. Therefore low fuel consumption. Works for me.

Speaking of this readout. A mate of mine has an EL XR8, and he showed me that he somehow changed the little readout to show speed, instant fuel, etc. He said it was some sort of hack, by a certain code entry, to change this. Has anyone heard of this, and is it possible on an AU?

Yup, it's called dash diagnostics. It has speed/rpm/instaneous L/100/average L/100 and more. I'm pretty sure it's come up on here before but to get into it:
Press the trip reset button up and down 5 times in 10s (1s on, 1s off), release for 5s, hold for 7s, release for 5s, hold for 7s. So it should be
0s-1s Down
1s-2s Off
2s-3s Down
3s-4s Off
4s-5s Down
5s-6s Off
6s-7s Down
7s-8s Off
8s-9s Down
9s-14s Off
14s-21s Down
21s-26s Off
26s-33s Down

i had over 950km DTE on my AU1 Forte at one stage.

DTE cant be reset. DTE depends on your right foot and nothing else.

Ben, this is impossible!! I have tried it key in, out, on off and every other way! I cannot get it to change! Have you done this before or did you just hear about it? I must be too slow or something, it just wont work for me!

it does work but timing is critical and it is quite difficult to get right

ive got an au sr 2 which does same thing when im running low on fuel , put 10 in , but if u watch the dte , it stays at the one point till it all catches up anyway ,

Your telling me. I just got it though! :Reverend: Took me like half an hour, but i eventually fluked it. God knows how to get it back out of there now, but its still a novelty, so i am not worried yet!

Its best to try with a clock in front of you, with a second hand. I thought I was doing it right, but i was going to fast. I like the screen for digital Tacho and speed, its awesome.

to get it back out you need to hold the needle down for 11 seconds
