You should be able to get it in there. XE was the final run... But they were a cleveland.

Chuck it in! What tranny did you have in mind??

Its got the 4 speed manual in it and lsd. Was thinking a bit stronger box and 9 inch just to have a bit of fun in.

9 inch might be overkill, as they were not even factory fitment behind the 351 esp's.
You going to turn it into a doughnut machine?

the box will be fine, as will the diff.
just be a bit carefull with it.

the XE V8's (both 302 & 351) had borg warner single rail 4 speeds, and borg warner '78' 4 pinion LSD's, including the cop cars.
we've run a borgy 4 pinion diff in our 82 Dick Johnson Red Roo Pipe replica race car for years, behind a healthy 351, with no probs. we do run a top loader box tho.

a 9" conversion is EXPENSIVE in an XE, because of the watts linkage arrangement on the back of the housing, and the coil spring mountings. simply trying to use an XC or so 9" won't work without mods to the housing.

anyway, if the stockys do go BANG, worry about the bigger stuff then.
why spend the money if you don't have too??

So doesn't that make it the XF that dropped the v8, considering the XE had one?

Hummmmm?

Nop.
XE dropped it in Nov. 1982, mid way thru the model run.
XF wasn't released till 1984-5.

If it's an XE after they dropped the V8 ('82') you'll need D.O.T mod plate if ya want to register it, that was the ruling here in QLD anyway.

yes, but its so much easier than trying to register an XF V8 - especially a post 86 (unleaded) XF.

i dont think the 6cly box will fit the V8. i went to the wreakers lookin for a new box for the XD. thought i was in luck till i told them it was a V8 and they said the input shafts are smaller on the I6 and wont fit properly.
