Default Au stereo removal caution.

hey guys,

this isnt another "how do i get my stock headunit out" thread.. so breathe a sigh of relief.

Its more a, learn from my mistake thread.

I had a VT a few years back, and the headunit removal process is identical to the AU. However my VT literally ejected when you had all 4 holes filled...

The AU was less friendly. So before anyone goes in 'willy nilly' and does damage to their unit, i strongly recommend you dont push your coathangers in too far. Its just over 50mm according to gregorys...
Of course you can pay 16 bucks / drive somewhere to use the correct tools, but boys like to tinker right...

heres the outcome when you do venture past the clips..

snapped a leg off the fujitsu processor.. oops. :( gonna be a fiddly fix, but ill get there ;)

while i got a new thread running, i thought id ask if anyone know where u can get a decent surround/bezel for a double din clarion unit that will fit the AUs unforgiving circular dash hole.... the one provided doesnt cut it.. Also keen to see different ways people mounted A/M units, preferably double din ;)

cheers fellas.
leigh

Ill get a pick of mine up asap, a kenwood double din.
I had to put 2 little screws in either side of the h/u to hold it in properly as yea.. ford didn't have aftermarket headunits in mind when they designed the hole.

Also know how much of a pita it is to get the stock headunit out without the proper tool.

As for the breaking it bit.. i say go nuts trying to get it out. If you ever want another.. its what.. 10 bucks for another one..

If your after one u can have my old one mate. Only postage would be a bit..

Anyway here's my double din AUIIPURSUIT

The rectangle outside cover piece that goes around the outside covers the screws.

did that come with your kenwood, did you fab it, or buy it seperately?

also how far back is your unit sitting.. with getting everything to sit right, it looks like it might sit quite "sunken" into the surround... might need to play with it til i find a happy medium i guess.

my clarion has a small coverpiece with it, but one the top or bottom side really has more than a lip on it, so id only be good to hide 2 screws. hrmm.. ive also noticed theres two decent holes inside the double din slot on the sides in the metal.. im thinking of applying to short pan head screws and placing the unit in those holes.. so it will just be rocking there. then use a screw or two to hold the front of the unit, to stop motion..

Yea it came with it.
It sits a little further in then stock (not much tho).. and doesnt look out of place, the 2 nobs still stick out past flush.

Yea mine was rocking, so put a screw either side in the middle. Holds it in nice and tight. Makes it easy to take out to, just take the screws out.

Another thing a mate did was use a bit of 'builders foam' and sat the h/u on top of it. Unless he told you or you touched it. You didnt notice anything.
But the screw idea works fine.
