Default How do I tell if I have an LSD?

Any external identification?

I thought I read somewhere that the AUII Fairmont Ghia V8 had LSD as standard, but I might be wrong...

The filler hole should have a bolt in it. If it's an LSD, it will also have a metal tag attached to the bolt advising that it's an LSD. If it's got an IRS setup, then the filler hole is on the LHS of the diff, near the tailshaft.

Jack the entire rear of the car off the ground and turn one wheel, dont start the car!, if the opposite wheel turns the same way its LSD.

Or you could try laying some rubber and see if it makes one black line or two

Option 3: Find a roundabout when the road is wet. Enter the roundabout, turn right and give it a boot full of accelerator at the same time:
- if the inside rear wheel spins then your car does not have LSD
- if you find your **** end hangs out big time or you have spun the car then your car is fitted with LSD.

Look if you have to ask you haven't got one.

You would notice it in lots of little way reversing up a hill steep driveway in the wet.

RH turns uphill in the wet and roundabouts.

when AUII came in with traction control out went the LSD except by option on quite a few models in the range.

you can get a single spinner to hang out also. and there is a easy way to check. your setting the guy up for a stack. it was just a bit of light humour and i am sorry to have offended you. no harm intended :

Isn't there supposed to be a "Warning: LSD Fitted" type sticker inside the drivers side door-frame?

Just rip off a big burnout on your favourite non-public test track i.e. neighbours driveway. One black line = open diff, two black lines = LSD ;)

from what i can gather after having a ZL fairlane with LSD and my current AU fairlane without LSD from the feel of it.. and my NA fairlane i had previously without LSD

the LSD equipped vehicles have a tendency to get the *** out ANYTIME the wheels start spinning... (off the line especially) and the tyres scrub slightly during slow tight turns esp on gravely covered roads..also if u put 1 wheel on the dirt and hte other wheel on the tarmac.. the wheels WONT spin just accelerate at a constant speed..

where as the NON LSD cars tend to just go STRAIGHT AHEAD..and the inside tyre chirps when u give it heaps out of any corner

there is a tag on the diff that faces toward the left wheel well on my AU fairlane that states it has a 3.45 ratio but not much more than that(couple of numbers and stuff)

easiest way is to jack the *** up and spin 1 wheel if the other spins the SAME way its LSD

Thanks fellas. Car has traction control, so it probably doesn't have LSD. When I feel a bit energetic I'll look for a tag and/or jack the back end up.

my guess is a AUII Fairmont Ghia V8 could cut a double legger if it had a LSD so just do it. If both wheels spin = LSD (normally) If right spins = No LSD (normally). a non LSD cutting both wheels can mean a stuffed diff or it could just be weird.
