Default 2020's AI, we know advertisers

My question is we know advertisers use the internet to sell us, who thinks in the 2020's AI interacts with the forums and even generates chat, conveniently includes their product, or am I just late to the game

One of my clients just installed a whole of house water filter, I was standing next to it having a look. 10mins later the exact unit popped up on my FB feed. I know google targets ads when you are in proximity to a shop etc, but that is nuts.
