Default Buying a 2001 Escape

Hey everyone,
Just signed a subject to finance contract on a 2001 Escape.
HEHEHE bit of an impulse descion, had no intention of going out to buy a new car.
Anyway, my question is this, does anyone have any negitive feedback about the Escapes, and are they a AWD or 4WD or just FWD ?
I failed to check that fact getting caught up in it all

Same type of system as the Explorer, 2WD in normal circumstances but 4WD kicks in when it senses any loss of traction. "smart on-demand 4WD system" is how they dsecribe it.

The escape runs a viscous/electronic rear differential which provides drive to the rear wheels if the front wheels are spinning faster, or you can have AWD at the press of a button. The only negative thing about them is they wear out the front brake rotors fairly quickly.

I just bought one in January, an XLT, replacing my wifes Telstar.
It's a good car to drive, goes and handles quite well for the type of vehicle. My wife loves it, as do most mums, hence the explosion of mini 4wd's. Kids love it too.
And you know what...I don't mind the column auto at all!
Only critisism of them is the fuel economy vs some of the newer offerings. I don't mind that though, being used to Falcon figures.
