Default Power down on AUI

Im hoping someone can help me...I have had the AUI Wagon for 2 years. Once or twice a week and sometimes for a couple of days in a row the car seems sluggish, lacks power and just seems like it shouldn't have gone out that day. Usually the next day its back to normal. The car has has all its services. Ive changed spark plug leeds and plugs, K&N Filter put it but the problem still occurs. I have also noticed that when the car isn't running as it should the brakes aslo feel spongy as if there is air in the lines. Pads & rotors have been changed and the brakes have been bled twice. Onced by me and once by a mechanic.

Any ieas would be appreciated?

Steve

I wish the answer was that simple. It happens in winter and on cooler days in summer. A friend suggested there may be a problem with the vacuum lines or something because what ever it is affects the brakes as well. The mechanic wants to replace the master cylinder but Im not so sure.

If a vacume hose is cracked or fitted correctly the car would idle rough or hunt the revs. check that the leaads are connected correctly to the plugs .
I would bleed the brakes 1st starting from the furthurest wheel away from the master cyl & seeing if there is a leak also check the cap is on correct on the master cyl before you go ahead with a replacement.
Also if your car has a few high Km's it could be valves.

A bit left field, but when was the last trans service done?

In the last 6 months, we replaced the tranny in the wife's AU1 wagon, and it is as if it has picked up at least 30% more power. Car is a LOT more responsive, lost the sluggish feel, and gets more kms per tank around town.

Transmission was serviced in September at 141000ks. Ive only done 6000 since then. They didn't check error codes either (their admission) so I guess I should pay them a visit. I haven't been totally happy with the transmission since I got the car. When going up a hill it changes down then backup almost straight away then labours its way from there. If you put the foot down it changes down to low and revs to hard.

As I said earlier plugs and leads have been replaced and brakes bled through twice. I dont think 147000ks is a lot.

Get them to check and clean the inhibitor switch. Sounds like what my XR8 was doing, and a cleanup of the switch seems to have cured it for the moment.

Almost certain it's a Vacuum leak, check all fittings/hoses. I've seen this type of behaviour before (faulty PCV valve) so check/change that also (plugs into the tappet cover). Also check/change the one to the brake booster. :
