Default Service Refund email from ford??

Today, I received what appeared to be a genuine email from Ford Australia. It was signed by the CEO, Graeme Whickman. It relates to an apparent overcharge during servicing over the past several years which can be redeemed by clicking a link and completing a questionnaire. Upon closer inspection before clicking any link, I checked the VIN number the email stated and cross referenced it with Etis Ford and it came up as a 2007 Ego Charcoal XT Falcon. Now, I have never owned such a car and this got me a little suspicious. Secondly, the email address it came from was "norepl17@ford.com via cmail20.com", hardly a legitimate looking Ford email address. Here's a copy of the email. Looks legit but could be a scam, too? Anyone else got this?

EMAIL TRANSCRIPT:

4 August 2017
Re: FALCON/6FPAAAJGSW7E69310

Dear John,
According to our records, you have serviced the vehicle referred to above at a Ford Dealer. This communication is to inform you of some important matters relating to those services.
Roadside assistance benefits
As you may know, from May 2012 to July 2017 Ford Australia advertised 12-months roadside assistance, or automobile club membership with roadside assistance coverage, as a free benefit to customers purchasing standard scheduled services from participating Ford Dealers for vehicles up to 7 years or 105,000km (or 135,000km for a specific period) whichever occurs first.
Ford Australia recently identified that a small charge relating to roadside assistance is likely to have been included as part of the servicing price and as a result, roadside assistance was not free as advertised.
Ford sincerely apologises for this unintentional error.
Ford Australia is committed to honouring its promises and therefore, to ensure that affected customers receive roadside assistance for free, Ford Australia is advising you of this issue and providing compensation for the likely overcharge on past servicing and price reductions for future servicing.
If you have already lodged your claim, or if you believe this program does not apply to you, then please ignore this communication.
Compensation for past servicing
We will provide you with compensation for the charges that are likely to have been incorrectly included in the servicing price for standard scheduled services you received between May 2012 and July 2017 for the vehicle referred to above. This compensation will be in the form of a “digital voucher” that can be stored on a digital device or printed, and which is redeemable at a variety of major retail outlets across Australia.
Compensation amounts will vary between $16 and $21 per service depending on the applicable service date. These amounts include interest.
To claim your compensation, please answer a few quick questions by clicking the link below:
Please click here
You will need the following information to hand:
Your unique access code, which is: EPDB8923UR

If you bought your vehicle as a used car, the date you bought it

If you no longer own the vehicle, the date you sold it
Note: if you serviced multiple eligible Ford vehicles during this period, you may receive separate communications referring to each of them. Each vehicle will have its own unique access code, and compensation must be claimed separately for each vehicle.
If you prefer to receive your compensation in a form other than a digital voucher, please call 1800 643 673 and we will process your claim manually. Please be aware that under this manual process it will take us longer to finalise your claim.
Price reductions for future servicing
In the future, when you service your vehicle at a Ford Dealer that is participating in the Roadside Assistance & Auto Club program, you will receive a price reduction of $15.95 (incl. GST) for each standard scheduled service until your vehicle reaches its age or mileage limit (see below). This price reduction will ensure that roadside assistance continues to be provided to you free of charge for future services, as we promised.
Further information or assistance
If you require further information regarding any aspect of this communication, or need any assistance, please call 1800 643 673.
Ford Australia sincerely apologises for this error and is committed to honouring our promises to you, our valued customer.

Kind regards,

Graeme Whickman
President and CEO
Ford Motor Company of Australia Limited

Eligibility for future price reductions:
Vehicles purchased new or used between 1 May 2012 and 31 January 2015 are eligible for price reductions until they reach 7 years or 135,000km (whichever occurs first).
Vehicles purchased new or used between 1 February 2015 and 31 August 2017 are eligible for price reductions until they reach 7 years or 105,000km (whichever occurs first).

Did you try calling the number? It goes through to a recorded message about the Roadside assistance compensation program.

No, I didn't call, I thought I would see if any here had any info first. I googled the number and I noted it was listed as a Ford phone number, but a scam email might put a legit number in.

Yeah, it might be legit, but the VIN number was not a car I have ever owned?

Just got a very similar one myself.
In my case, the subject line is : "Ford Roadside Assistance Compensation Program"
and it continues on, similar to yours. They got the Mondeo bit correct on mine, not sure about other details....
Hmmm

Mine was the same, "Ford Roadside Assistance Compensation Program". So, did you check the VIN on yours?

I'm pretty sure it's a genuine email, owning two Fords (FPV GT & a Fiesta) I got 2 emails and the codes with VIN numbers were correct and 2 vouchers (redeemable at a choice of several stores) will be emailed within 2 business days.

I just got this email for our Terri. I checked the VIN, and it seemed genuine.
But..... as I have received a number of scam emails lately from all places encouraging me to 'click here' to receive whatever is invoiced / promised/ refund, I deleted it because I am unlikely to use Ford service again, and I am not that desperate for compensation of a 'small charge'.

If you can get it back, Ira, it may be worth it. The refund is in the form of a gift card (NOT for a Ford dealership). You can also decline this, and require another form of compensation.

$21 refund for the Territory, $21 refund for the GT. You receive a confirmation email indicating e-voucher will be emailed in the next 2 business days.

I say it is genuine. I've just received a similar email explaining the situation with the free roadside assistance when serviced, which quotes the correct VIN.

I wont be claiming, as I'm sure my servicing was done elsewhere since May 2012 when the free roadside assistance scheme commenced.

I got it as well. It looks legit and the VIN is correct. Plus the Email address is one I don't use much but Ford do know it and have used it in the past.

(It's quite likely to do with the ACCC going through Holden and Ford at the moment for failing to abide by Aussie consumer rights/ law.)

Hmmm... It takes you to a website www.foaserviceclaim.com.au and then asks for details. I'd feel a bit more comfortable if it was under the www.ford.com.au website.

If you go up to the Ford logo on that page it links back to the www.foaserviceclaim.com.au site - not to Ford.com or Ford.com.au as you'd expect (including the privacy statement link etc.)

I'm not feeling so comfortable about filling it out now.

I've only had the emails for the cars I own and the XR6 I owned for 3 years and was serviced by Ford. I've claimed for all 3 as I paid for the services and was the one who was overcharged so I feel I am entitled to the refund. It works out to be in excess of $200 in vouchers so I'll accept that.

The linked page from my email suggests that Ford's service records indicate that I have received 2 eligible services? Not sure about that, as i've only paid for ONE service, and that's the 12months/15k service.
