This just goes to show, anything old in well kept condition will be desired by somebody out there.

The buyer's parents probably had one just like it when they were a kid!

They RWD? Could be a "last of the RWD" factor to it as well.

Hi Guys.

I occasionally see a Coupe model at my local shopping centre. in Canberra ( so little rust issues ).

The paint was a bit iffy, but I had a bit of a look. Didn't look too bad.

Probably worth more than the 2 cars I have at home

Cheers.

Yeah, back in the day when people ran out of mazdas it was common to put a rotary in these (or small datto utes). This was before piston engines got good though, nobody would do it now.

But all RWD "chrome bumper" cars have gone up in price, not just aussie ones. I went looking for a project car a while back (pre covid) and nothing was cheap, even the japanese ones had gone up over 10k (if not a rust bucket). Cheapest most unique car I could find was a mazda 1500 (Giugiaro design body). Great car, no large cult following (surprisingly underappreciated, forgotten by many a while back)

E: Bet you they are over 30k now LOL. Could have got one for under 5k not long ago. Same for the datto 1600 and 240. They're the only old Jap piston engine cars I've liked.
Next up datsun 180bs will be 20k LOL

You jest but it will happen, anything chrome bumper Jap is doing well. Some really cool RWD coupes of the period.

Wouldn't be suprised because the good stuff is too pricey. I was annoyed pre covid that my old RXs were worth up to 60k, now in another year + covid hike they are closer to 100k.

Beginners/starters that want old chrome have to find something 1970s cheap if that's the era they want to buy in.

If gutza thinks that corolla is pricey for a stock 1300, a mazda 1300 is for sale right now at 40k. Not even a fastback coupe, and it's stock. It's a slow, tiny, boring deathtrap imo.
https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/cars...dan/1259191841

I'm sticking with old BMWs because they're the cheapest and actually built better, better piston engines and have more equipment LOL.
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...-6946182/?Cr=1

They always have minor problems so often they sell cheap.

E: Or 4dr 5 series like mine for $2k Someone on FB selling an e34 535i with bad head (removed - so needs a rebuild due to corrosion unfortunately) for $900

And to think it was possible to get factory air conditioning with this model. I wonder if it could break the speed limit with the AC running ....

Awesome little car though. Hard to kill. A fun and honest drive.

I was into KEs in my younger days...actually still have my first car, KE30 sedan.
The days of picking these little gems up for 2 or 300 bucks, have well and truly gone.

There were 2 more RWD Corolla series after this one. There was the KE70/AE71 square (boxy) model & there was the AE86 in the mid 80s. The first FWD Corolla was the AE80/82 series which ran from the mid 80s to the late 80s.

These cars have a big cult following especially in SA. All the young dudes under 25yo are getting into them and nabbing up grandma/grandads old Corolla that they bought and restoring them. I think its a good thing.

they were little trucks, we had one for 10 years, sold it to a mate, he sold it to his sister inlaw and sold it back to me
took it to our farm and it lived down there and never broke down, probably still there we sold the farm years ago
my dad put in a 5k engine and had the GM trimatic box

would i pay $12k? hell no! for my old cars i prefer cruisers i can chuck the family in and go to the beach (like my Kingswood)

That is a nice example of the model. Mum's 1983/84 CSX (RWD) is in the shed.

Same model as my Grandma's car I stole the keys to at about 15 years old and took for a little test drive around backroads before my parents and grandparents got home.

Nearly lost it after dumping the clutch going back to 2nd gear on the corner.

I know where theres a Datsun 180B sedan which is covered in dust and appears to be all good condition except for the faded paint!!!!

My grandma had a mk2 cortina and I'd rather have one of them. I wanted it but she sold it a few months before I got my licence :(

They're not going down in value, that's for sure. Tell your mate not to sell his imo.

He will never sell it (of course for a stupid price he will).

This is his 5th one. All the rest got written off drifting. He feels bad about that

At least he is enjoying his cars, if I was an engineer who designed cars and I saw people putting them in garages as investments I'd be so ****ed off

I had an apprentice who sold a heavily modified toyota soarer to buy an ae86 about a decade ago. The soarer was a 2jz with a big single turbo. He sold that for 15k and the ae86 was 8k. So it was the hatch with pop up headlights. It had quad throttle bodies, half cage, mechanical lsd and a few other bits i didnt care to listen about. It wasnt very fast, but was light. When he wrote it off, what he got charged with by the police was different to his story. But he was notorious for not letting the truth get in the way of a story. So id beleive the police on that one.....

A very common story sadly. I know I've been guilty of wrecking cars that are now desirable doing the same thing.

I'd love to build a replica TE37. Pity we never got those spec cars here.
