Default Kidney stones!

Let's share the grief.

I've had one lodged in my ureter for the past couple of days and the pain is unbearable without meds. Had a CT scan yesterday and the advice was to drink plenty of fluids and wait till the little nasty passes.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and while were at it feel free to share your horror.

I have had one, I was at work when i had developed a pain in my chest and the pain was unbearable. Managed to drive home and then hospital.
It wouldn't pass, so an operation to remove the stone. Which involves the
surgeon inserting a tube with a mini camera and pliers into the end of your
whizzer to get it out.
It thought it was gunna be some sort of key hole surgery, boy was i wrong.
Then after surgery back to the specialist for a check up where i was given
a plastic cup with the stone in it and an actual photo where it was lodged.
And was told the reason i felt like going for whizz every 20 minutes was because he had put a stint in after the operation to keep the tube in my gut
open. This stint was removed a week later in hospital.
I have had different types of pain, teeth etc. But this takes the cake. Panadol 40 didn't help.

russxr67 i hope you pass this little sucker, and have spoke to a few people
that have. I guess i was unlucky. Good luck with it.

Oh God, thanks for bringing back that memory, they kill.
I had mine laser blasted because it was too big to pass, then I had to pass out lots of little ones.
My you know what is tingling just thinking about it.
The Dr. reckoned they are more painful than childbirth.
Good luck mate, you'll need it

Firstly, it is okay to scream when you pee, drugs are good, stronger drugs are better.
When it's all over, you will thank god or some Deity of your choosing.
Good luck.

Oh my God. You poor thing. I hope it passes very soon. i had one start on the 26th april 2012. First indication blood in urine and lots of it. Did not tell my wife till next day because I thought it may be cancer. Went to GP and he ordered a cat scan and yes its a kidney stone, phew.

Thats good i say because i had bowel cancer in 2007 and thought this blood may be a recurrance..... lucky it was'nt....but the kidney stone is bloody torture. Went to urologist an he said it should pass in about a week so had an appointment to see him four weeks from initial consultation. He prescribed a script that increases the size of the urether and shrinks the prostrate, its used for prostrate cancer... Well had excruciating pain day after day passing heaps of blood. Went back to gp he said not much can be done.

Just have to wait to pass. Days pass and still the stone refuses to go. Blood in bowl and lots of urgency to urinate but nohting passes only drops of blood. Felt like a knife being twisted in my side. It also felt like when you get whacked in the balls. Taking heaps of painkillers but none really worked. i thought well this is it im gonna die. My wife rings my urologist he advises go to emergency dept. They rescan me and determine the stone has not moved since last scan three weeks ago. bloody hell. they transfer me to a hospital that has a urology dept at 12,00 pm at night via ambulance.

Im being prepared for a procedure under anesthetic called lithotripsy in the morning at 10.00am. The stone is broken up into pieces using laser. Several hours later they remove the catheter. That's when all my problems start again. Unbearable pain is back. Im given 2 Endone tablets that gets rid of the pain. For the next three days pain is crazy. Get back to emergency days later for re scan. All shows ok. I have now a script for Endone at home. Thats the only medication that works.

For the next 5 days my pain is crazy after procedure i thought its all behind me now.. After the sixth day the stone seems to have passed. I pray for no one to ever get a kidney stone, but prayers seem to be ignored. This episode started on 26th April 2012 and lasted till 7 June 2012. I hope you will not go through this. My stone was 6mm x 5mm in size. Im happy it was not cancer.

Had Gallstones, they were bad - particularly when you have an attack during an exam.
Is it a laser they use or ultrasound to break up the stones ???

Don't let the doctors fob you off..('lets give this a few weeks') if it is causing significant pain...get something done.

i think everyone has similar experience with kidney stones but vary in the amount of pain they feel, based on the size of the stone in the first place

when i had mine i thought i was about to die, didnt know how all of a sudden i was sweating and feeling hot. About an hour later i couldnt walk

went to the docs twice to get shots of morphine, about a week later it passed

Dont really know what causes them, diet? dairy? dunno

I was told by the doctor, it was a build up of calcium in the kidneys.

When you eat calcium-containing foods, your body normally takes what it needs and passes the rest to your kidneys for elimination in your urine. However, in some people, calcium builds up in the kidneys and forms part of abnormal accumulations called kidney stones. Any source of calcium you consume, including supplements, can potentially contribute to this process.

A combination of asparagaus and Coca-Cola is a great cure for kidney stones. Coke dissolves the stone and the asparagaus flushes it out of your system. Plenty of information on Google about it.

I've had kidney stones on and off over the past 25 years. The only thing that has changed is that the drugs and treatment is better.

Have tried the "cures" but have not had any success.

I belive that there are two types - calcium and oxellate. Both are contrubuted to by a lack of liquid. Drink more is my motto, and it seems to work. My stones are the oxellate type. Have to avoid rubahab - no probs here, tomato juice and excessive tomatos - not too hard.

Have learnt that you always tend to travel with Buscopan - relaxant - and Endone - pain killer. Endone is just a brand name of drug that is used as a derivivitive of heroin. It is a Schedule 8 drug, and every time I have bought it, the chemist gives me the third degree. Beware, that if you carry it overseas it is a prohbited drug in some countries and you will be in deep ****** if caught.

I had the pleasure of having one attack in Paris many years ago. Did you know that most drugs in France are taken analy not oraly. I do now. Who said the French are different??

I've heard that lack of water in diet may cause them among other things. I'm afraid of anything containing to much calcium. I've also learnt that chemotherapy in the past may cause kidney stones. At the end of the day I want to stay well clear of things that may cause them but there's no conclusive instigators. I'm not sure what caused mine but what ever it is its a real "mongrel". I hope that no one gets kidney stones. Some say its like child birth. If it is then we must respect woman more. If I was a woman there's no way id get pregnant no matter what.

If there is a God, please help those people right now who have rotten kidney stones. They are really bad!

If someone can pass a kidney stone with very little pain.......YOU ARE BLOODY LUCKY AND A SUPERMAN!

I was diagnosed with kidney stones while having scans due to severe lower back pain. Stones were the cause of the pain, 2 off them, 1 x 8mm and 1 x 10mm. Unlucky for me they weren't round, these were known as stag horns, bad mothers, finger like and sharp.
Booked into urologist to have it checked, also checked my prostate without being told here it comes, Thankyou.
Lithotripsy was advised as the ideal treatment so a booking was made in 3 weeks time. Within this time waiting I collapsed at work crying from the pain. I was rushed to hospital and given high dose of morphine and a pill up the clacker to stop lower muscles contracting and damage to urinary tract. Had the procedure the next day and then peed while on my knees in agony.
The most painfully experience I have ever had.

I've looked at all sorts of natural remedies today. One even involved "jumping and bumping" in an effort to dislodge the stones from the ureter.

If it lasts much longer i'll consider the coke and asparagus method. Don't know if I could down 6 cans of coke and finish it off with pureed asparagus though.

Mate, they are some monster stones . No wonder you passed out!

Pill up the clacker is what they advised for me when the pain get's too much to bear. Wasn't too keen on the idea though. I mean ,are you supposed to shove it in yourself or does one call on the missus to deliver said object into one's rectum?

Do you need a script for Endone?

Endone is hospital grade pain killer. Only a doctor can prescribe but only with a real legitimate condition but even then the pharmacy guys treat you like a drug addict or a drug lab guru. 8 x 10 mm stone my goodness you poor thing....i cannot express more sympathy to you...in fact i have tears in my eyes for you....What the hell do we have to get kidney stones?

Best you self insert, it may take several goes as i found but it is instant relief once it stays put.
Not sure if you need script for Endone.
The ones i was given at hospital were Indocid Indomethacin 100mg supposition, they are bullet shaped and about 25cm long. If your missus inserts it trust me she will get shot. They also gave me a few more to take home and keep in the fridge.
Drop into a chemist and ask for Ural. Its a box of sachels that you mix and drink with water, it neutralizers the kidneys and helps flush.
Good luck with it, if it drops you get yourself straight to hospital.

Tried a new remedy today.

60ml of lemon juice mixed with equal parts olive oil. The juice is supposed to break down the stone whereas the oil is supposed to line the urethra and ureter to allow for easier evacution.

I'll let you know if it works.

Horrible, horrible things! I've 3 renal attacks & surgery involving a stent placement then followed by the stent removal & i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Peeing out a 6mm stone was no fun either.

Drink more water or beer & avoid milk & dairy products is my best advice although i did discover a herbal treatment called Chanca Piedra which does seem to help.

Well, after almost a week of putting up with this I made an appointment to see my GP today and she has referred me to a uroligist for removal on Monday.
Hopefully ,I will pee this out before then but failing that it's the only option to go with atm. I'm under the pump workwise and need to get back into the groove.
