Default Au Xr8 II-III

Hi, iv been looking at buying an AU XR8 for some time now and have found an AU XR8 REBAL with 65,000ks on the clock, now just playing the waiting game, cause the dealers are trying to rip me off!

Just wondering if you guys can give me some ideas of what to look for when going over the car, example, any common engine problems the windsor might have.
thanks.

rebels are sweet! They kinda have a 2 tone kit. 220kw handbuit engine, special mags, leather, etc. Best bet when buying a car get a nrma check about $150 save ya heaps in the long run, or even your usual mechanic. But at 65k it's barely broken in ;).
If not start with service books, should have had a recall for the steering colum- wasnt anything major. Look for leaks at the engine, gearbox, and diff etc. Take it for a spin see that it steers all straight, do some u turns etc listen and feel for wheel bearings, control arm sounds squeeks rattles etc, take it out on some 100km roads and listen for diff whines. Depends if it's auto or manual, auto feel for nice shifts- no lag or waiting for it to change gear etc. Manual you want nice smooth shifts that arnt to clunky but au xr8 manuals kinda do anyways lol, Go around and push down on each corner of the vehicle and you want them just to bounce back and stop. not alot of bounce back. The windsor engine is pretty good a little asthmatic lol but some on here have done 300k+ and still going strong.Rebels have the 1.72 YT's and 70mm T/B and svo alloy heads, so there a good starting ground for mods,Also regular maintance and tlc will see yrs out of it ;) Other than that? sounds good got any pics? and ask em if there gonna chuck in a ps2+ grand tourismo

Wasnt anything major hey think they add a bolt or something? should be sweet as.
How much are they asking?

It wasnt the column it was actually the steering rack and from memory it was only 6 cyl models that were affected. my old AU3 never had any recalls done and never needed any.

Thanks for the info so far. The asking price is 20k, but iv managed to get it down to 16k, still not low enough for my liking though. Last time they had an Au XR8, they did the exact same thing, price was to high, so it sat there for 3 years and rotted away with only 46k on the clock, but they reakon they can get more for it. If they can, then good luck to them, ill just have to find another one.

$16k is good Turn up with $15K it's an awesome buy hey ;) considering 65k ago it would have been $45k+ you saved $30k off purchase price and it's had 3 services : I say without seeing it go for it!

Doesn't matter much,,there's an obvious weight saving with the alloys but at the end of the day, alloy or iron its still 220 killer wasps.

NO they had cast heads from what i can find ,Also 9:4:1 Also a cam from Crow Part No 621338 which was mild because the heads flowed good with the valve size and alittle porting by yella terra.

They did NOT have alloy head's, period.
They were a stand alone XR8 series III special , the same engine as every other series III XR8 220.

Not to nit pick, Rebels were a series 2.

No alloy heads, they had cast GT40P's.

I agree, go and get it. Walk in with 14K cash and drive it home. If they say no, do what you had planned to, and play the game by walking away.

They got it for much less than 14K so I reckon they just might take it.

All the very best with it.

No factory alloy headed XR8's exist as far as I know, if they do exist it's more than likely something the previous owner did.

The Rebels are a good bit of kit but a Series III with just as many options ticked is pretty much the same vehicle so don't be conned into paying extra coin just because it is a Rebel - unless you get the playstation that went with the car when they were sold new.
